Title: Boar hog
Post by: Lacy man on June 19, 2018, 06:51:40 am
Went sleeping under the stars a weekend or so ago and cut the dogs right before daylight. Dogs made a cold trail around 800 yards and got him moving made a couple figure 8s until he cut across the road and bobbed when he shoulda weaved they sucked him up and bayed. Thanks the white ones are jp stock, been nice dogs. And the walker dog is from up north out of bear/cat dog stock that's turned out to be a solid little rascal.

Fine lookin pack of hounds Lacyman. I bet they can make one’s lungs burn!

Are you seeing noticeable differences in the treeing walker and the running walkers?
-
Both open on track? Cold nose vs warmer nose? Bottom? Faster track speed vs more trail minded? Independent vs pack minded? I’m sure the hunting situation dictates a lot of it. The differences could become more subtle as they hunt together more.

The walker from up north is a cross between running/treeing with more emphasis on the running side in this case, I got him at 8 weeks old and raised him with my other dogs and honestly the dog is real similar to what I had, he's silent trailing if it's jumped and runs he might give a little lip, runs tight with the pack and bays pretty well and will put teeth on one. I was honestly surprised how well fit the pack, rigs with the other dogs too. He has some good hustle but like I mentioned I think a good portion had to do with me raising him with what I was already running

I know some of the other dogs out of the line I got him from can be more mouthy etc but get the job done no doubt they re bred to deal with bad bears first off, so I kinda figured the hog hunting would workout and so far as for this little dog

Funny you mention about what they were raised and started with influencing how they turn out, I got a full blood running walker gyp that was started in the coyote pens, I got her right under a year old and kenneled her with my two older cur gyps, I would let her bay cows with my pups and when I started her on hogs for the first year she was dead silent on track, until I hunted her with some of my buddy’s plotts and her natural instincts took over and she has barked every breathe since lol...

Thanks guys, goose it made me a believer in trying to keep the dogs that babble more off the yard and not dropping dogs with others that like to bark a lot. Seems like it works I don't mind a dog that ll bark some if it's running the hell out of em and not out of place while dogs are leaving their butt. Some of mine started a little mouthy but with a little age learned to shut up and get moving and might bark some if they can see it while their running or real close behind it 50-75 yards.

Thanks shotgun, those bulldogs sure have worked out well for me. Easy handle which is a must for me hunting solo 99% of the time and seem to be pretty level headed dogs they ride together (both males) and don't have any issues with my other dogs as well. I ve cramped them in the box with 4-6 dogs and never a sound from em.
