2/15/25

Went on Saturday with my old buddy dog mentor that really got me into hog dogs way back . He is 71 and fighting cancer but still getting after it. It was myself, him and his wife. Their daughter in law and her brother. We had two buggies. Started the day with a few sows and pigs. Plott dog hit a good one right off the bat and strolled off the property to be out of the action for the next couple hours. Got 2 good fat barr hogs and a big fat sow.

By 1pm it was getting hot and the trailer was full with 12 hogs. Took the trailer to unload and make room and regroup. Things went worse in the afternoon with breaking a shock to one of the buggies in a pond. We still ended up with 5 more in the afternoon. One real big sloppy sow probably way over 200#s

Ended the day with 17 total. Not counting shoat pigs that we couldn't get out of for a little bit.

How do the youngsters say it, “you’za boss!” Man that’s a great day. Sounds like a whole bunch of work too. That’s that work we don’t mind doing lol. It’s really awesome to have a day like that with the company you were in. I think about my old mentors nearly every time I load a dog. I sure miss them. Sounds like your plott is trying to work for you too. That’s another positive. Do you like what you’re seeing from him? Does your mentor still have dogs? Same as you?

He still breeds and hunts them. They go just about every week. I try and go with them as much as I can. I am more than blessed.

All our cur dogs are related in some way or the other. We breed them back and forth.

They are in S. Fl and I hunt mostly Central/North Fl. The terrain calls for little different dog in different places. A more wind type dog works there.....where i gravitate to a more tracking dog. But the good dogs catch hogs anywhere.

I see. That’s probably a good deal for both of you.
