Title: First hunt
Post by: WayOutWest on January 21, 2026, 06:47:00 pm
I made it to Texas Monday night and we made a round yesterday morning. We caught 2 pretty good boars but the bigger one crossed the river but he couldn't get up the bank . We ended up shooting him. We then moved and dropped again and got a red boar stopped that was about 175. Had a few pokes in the baydogs but nothing serious.

Your annual trip usually results in some good hunts and good times, off to a good start.

Sounds like a good start WOW but you have to quit bringing this weather when you come. Try to leave it up there next time.

Cajun, this was the least snow I have seen in Utah, Wyoming and Colorado. If they don't get some snow it's gonna be a problem next summer. I sure didn't intend to have to deal with this cold down here again.

These were the two females the first hunt. I was proudest of the red boar. The 3 pups and Ray really spent the time digging this hog out. Persistence paid off for them. My youngest son got grounded until his senior year, he’s a sophomore now, because of the picture with the red boar. He said Joel and I looked like twins. Pffff whatever! Now WOW is feeling all cocky. One little compliment and it went straight to his head! Lol it’s all in good fun but I really did ground him for that one.

We made another hunt this morning. We ran some hogs out of the woods when we drove through. We caught them leaving in a run as soon as we got out of the woods and down where I wanted to cast from. We tried to get ahead of them but couldn’t. We looked up though and a few more came out behind us and were running to us. They saw us and stopped and we sent dogs to them. The bay dogs run one down and caught her in the creek. Ranger caught a sow as well. We loaded dogs at the creek and went and cast them. They ran in there and caught a another sow. Then we cast them to the creek where I saw a hog leave towards. They went and got that one bayed in the creek too and we caught her. 4 hogs in real short order.
