i have one of the square dog house the top comes off of top kinda looks like an igloo any way i take the top off and put a couple of boards across the door opening and works great. washes out good between litters.

i have also made a wooden box 3' square about, 12" deep.

kiddy swimming pool.

Made this one out of hardboard sitting ontop of a pallet.  Made the top piece slideable so you could get inside easy.  works pretty good probally a little larger than you would want but anyways here is an idea.  It is working great so far the pups are about a week and one day old and no complaints so far.  Oh yeah put a piece of fabric over the opening to keep it a little warmer and have a blanket i put over the top at night and they are warm as can be

One thing I always put in my brood boxes is a piggyrail.  Just a piece of 2X4 on the inside of the box, about 4'' from the bottom.  It will help keep the momma from laying ontop of a pup that is against the side.  It has saved a few pups that i raised from getting smashed.

I have always had a 3x4 box with an open top on it, about 2 foot deep. In the cutout for the door I nail 2 1x2 on each side making a slot where you can slide strips of plywood for when the pups start trying to escape. And I have a plastic heating pad that i put inside of it. Also put the piggyrail like southtexasff was talking about.

we've had 100% success rate by using a little round "kiddie" swimming pool in the garage. We fill it with cedar shavings, which helps keep it clean, and keep a couple of older blankets in there for momma to bunch up for warmth. We've been most successful raising our litters this way---if you don't mind keepin em in the garage for awhile. I love havin them around getting them used to people and my son.
