Title: Weimaraner as a Hog Dog Post by: FcHogDog on November 16, 2009, 07:46:05 pm Has anyone ever used or seen anyone use a weimaraner as a hog dog? I was just wondering because they are really long legged and big lunged dogs. I was also thinking about crossing a catahoula X weimaraner or black mouth X weimaraner. Just a question to see what yall think. I would really like to hear everyone's input.

Lot's of stamina and bottom, but rough as could be. But that may have been his age... never learned to back up yet. Unfortunately, I lost him to a train.

Title: Re: Weimaraner as a Hog Dog Post by: courtneywidacki on November 17, 2009, 10:27:35 am I had two weimaraners growing up. They were wonderful dogs. We used them for bird dogs though. They have great drive and love to do it. They always have their nose on the ground. The only issue we had with them was trying to keep them looking good. We had them on a strict diet and still were overweight. However, we did live in the city and they didnt get to go hunting except during dove season, so that was part of it. but we found them to be great companions and loved to go huntin. I never thought about as a hog dog, but id like to see what they would do.

JP...I also had a good up and comer get run over by a train...demolished the tracking collar as well...only reason I knew the train got him was that my hunting partner was a RR engineer and he said he didn't like the train blasting his horn 3 times in the middle of nowhere...usually means someone or an animal is on the tracks as the train is moving through...
