Title: Silent hounds Post by: sfboarbuster on December 22, 2009, 09:56:27 am Alright, all of this talking about hounds vs. curs and open vs. silent has got me thinking.
What do you guys think about silent hounds. Do you think they have an edge over a cur? Have you hunted around any good ones? And what breeds do you think are more likely to be silent? 2. Stamina 3. Hunt Drive 4. Bottom end I also believe hounds typically have a bigger motor and thats probably what give them the advantage in #2,3,and 4. this being said all our dogs are hound cur crosses Title: Re: Silent hounds Post by: make-em-squeel on December 22, 2009, 12:34:52 pm I think that is a generel statement because I have seen a ton of hounds, curs, and crosses not worth the bullett as well as these same dogs that are great hog dogs. If you get the right bred cur like Bob's hounds have no advantage with stamina, or drive, or bottom....You will have hounds, curs, and mixes of the two that rise up as great hog dogs showing all it takes in the above mentioned categories just like you will have culls. Heck I wish i could call mine off alot of the time, and I know severel 100% curs better than mine with more hunt, bottom etc. Out of all the ones that make it as a great dog it is then personal preferance as to what breed makes you the happiest. I like BMC's not cat's etc. You old coon hunters probably disagree. 8) Good topic! The right bred dogs is hard to come by.
