Title: One in my sights.......
Post by: crackerc on January 08, 2010, 10:19:29 am
A buddy of mine sent me these pics of a big barr that he has been getting game camera pics of every night at his deer lease. He called today and wants to try him as soon as deer season is over, which is Jan 24 here.

Hopefully I will be able to get a dog on him so we can see just how big he is. And hopefully we can catch him..... :o

Any guesses?? Its hard to tell in the pics as there is nothing to compare him to. Thats a boar hog in the pics with him.

That what my buddy guessed , 250-300 lbs. I just posted a note on the board last night and said the hogs down here don't get fat and he sends me these pics today.......

I wish there was something in the pic to see how tall he was. You also can't see if he has any teeth in these pics....but I would bet he has some.

He could be just a short fat 150 lb barr. I hope to get to see him in about 3 weeks and will be able to tell you what he weighed........"hopefully"..........

I am new to the forum ;D...been reading but havent posted anything and I have to say that I LOVE IT!

We run curr dogs out of my husband and some of his buddies lines - no special lines just proven dogs who love to catch hogs.  We hunt primarily sugar cane but do go to groves and woods occassionally.

I bet he goes at least 300 or more....Here is a picture of a bar we caught in 12-12-2008 in the cane who weiged 385 (scale verified) after three days in the trailer so he may have been a little heavier.  We caught him w/our curr dogs only - our catch dog had  been killed a few weeks earlier and we had a **** eater that supposedly would catch but never showed up (who a found new home the next day).

Little sister who found him - she is probably 40lbs soaking wet

Big brother who helped catch him

hogaholicswife, welcome to the board. Some good people on here...even some of the Texas ones... ;D  JUST KIDDING GUYS!!

I am in central Fla and my dogs are mostly cowdog bred. I have never hunted the cane fields and from what I hear about them, I will stick to the palmettos and cypress swamps!

Good looking dogs, you gotta love the red and yellow dogs....

Thanks!  I have really enjoyed reading others posts/stories and seeing how everyone else hunts.

We love our yellow and red dogs - you cant beat them! I am not up to date on bloodlines but do hear them from time to time - I think the most popular around here are the Partin Dogs and someone gave us a 1yr old Wetherford Ben bred dog recently.

We were looking at some leopard dogs from Live Oak and considering getting a female to eventually put some bay back in our dogs if she could keep up but I convinced the hubby to breed his little "princess" and we are hoping on some jam up puppies out of this litter as it goes back to some awesome dogs on both sides.

The cane is tough on them and us - it is thick and messy to say the least, we catch some VERY GOOD hogs out of it but have also had major wreckage.

My Monkey dog came from Roy Partin in St. Cloud. My other dogs were raised here for about 6 generations of dogs. Most are red or yellow. I get quite a few ringneck dogs out of my old dogs too.

I have a buddy in Ft. Myers that hunts the cane now and then and I hear how rough it can be. We have rough woods, but at least we have trees.....he came up here and hunted and couldn't believe all the trees we had.

The major wreckage is what I "try" to avoid when possible... :o

Dave is in "deer hunting mode" now. Won't hog hunt and doesn't want dogs anywhere NEAR where he is deer hunting.....so I have to wait until after deer season to take the dogs in.

He USED to be a hog hunter ...not sure what happened...... rolleyes
