How do you all have your dogs?  Do you prefer to have them on a chain or in a kennel?  What are the advantages and disadvantages of both?

I've got my 2 males on chains and my pups and females up on concreted 6x10 kennels.  Eventually everything I got will be on concrete but for now this works.  I like kennels the best, these concrete are easy to clean and when dogs are cut it keeps them up off the ground.  Its the way to go.

We have both...the dogs on chains seem happier. We have one female that want even come out of her house when she is in a kennel.

i have my dogs all on tie outs right now... i find that the room to run on them keeps them in better shape...my curs stay lean and my bulldogs is ripped to shreds almost all the time.  i used the kennels if i have a dog cut or a gyp in heat...that just my opinion

I have one dog on chain, and the rest in 5X16' kennels, kennel dogs do good, seem to like it, the dog on the chain loves to dig when kenneled but no when she's on the chain.

I've got three 50' runners and  two 6x10 kennels and I rotate my dogs between them every couple months but I am raising 2 puppies right now so they've got reservations in the kennels for a few more months before they get on a runner.I prefer the runners for the ability to exercise but the sound of the dog slamming into the stoppers when someone comes or a neighborhood pig walks by gets old along with runners take up more space.

I think it is Illegal for a dog to be kept on a chain around the clock (with a few exceptions) according to HB 1411.....but I could be wrong....just an f.y.i.

I have had dogs on a chain my whole life and now all of the sudden it is illegal..... rolleyes

it isnt illegal unless you tie them with a pinch collar or a choke chain. some cities have adopted ordinances banning tethering  alltogether. but over all it is NOT illegal

I always noticed if I had a dog on a chain than kenneled him up, he seemed to loose muscle definition,  once I would put him back on the chain he would gain it.  I think being kenneled on a good concretepad would probably be a little healthier for the dogs.  I was just wanting to see if it would be worth getting all the dogs in kennels.

i have both kennels and chains, i prefer the chains for keeping the dog conditioned, no or very little clean up on a longer chain, my dogs like to be on the ground they seem alot happier.
 concrete is great if you have alot of time to spend cleaning kennels, which i dont.

 my kennels are in a barn with a nice slab and drains, they are the preifert 5x10 ,i use them for gyps having pups, injured dogs, or cold weather like we are having now, other than that my dogs are back out on their chain.

 

yea i definatey agree with the dogs being in better shape on the chain...my buddy had a pitbull that was on the chain and looking real good then put him on a self feeder in a kennel and got pretty dang fat...they went hunting in the piney woods one morning and the bulldog got wrecked and ended up getting killed....it may have been what happens happens but i think maybe him being out of shape and slow may have had something to do with it....
