Title: Cut Collars?
Post by: scout1 on January 20, 2010, 06:03:15 pm
Just wondering if anyone has ever thought of or used leather cut collars.  Reason I'm asking, have a friend that does saddlework, and was just curious - hey, what if I had him make a few leather collars to try out.  Wonder how they would do, saddle leather is pretty tough.

leather works great to hold up to a hog tusk, but it is not as flexible as the materials that majority of cut collars are made from and may not allow enough motion of turning the head in some dogs and if thats the case the dogs can't breath as good either. Leather also requires maintenance of cleaning and oiling it to keep it conditioned which is not the case with the cloth, nylon, or wet felt cut collars. Not to mention the expense of the qood quality leather.
