Title: Tire Sealant Post by: Circle C on February 09, 2010, 02:30:49 pm What are y'all using for tire sealant in your ATV's and UTV's?
I just bought a new set of tires for my Mule and on the first outing I got two punctures in the sidewall. Too close to the rim for a patch, and the tire shop says the holes are too close to each other for him to be comfortable plugging them. Said he is afraid it might tear the rubber and make one large hole... In years past, I always stopped at a tire shop in Pearsall, TX and had them put in some pink slime, it looked like Pepto Bismol and it worked great. Since I stopped hunting in that area a couple years ago, I no longer have access to that product.(It came in a 5 gallon jug) The last set of tires I had, I put a quart of green slime in each one. I don't think it worked very well, because I was always having to top off the tires with air every week or so. Today Mandi is hauling the Mule to Pearland, TX to this place. http://www.ustiretech.com/pages/frameset.html I remember seeing their display at the hunting show a number of years ago. They would drive 1/4 awls into the tires, and the tires would seal instantly. I am hoping that this product works for me. If it does not work, that brings me back to my original question. I would like to know what product y'all use to seal your tires... Thanks, Chris Title: Re: Tire Sealant Post by: Bump on February 09, 2010, 02:39:01 pm They sell the pink tire sealant at Hoffpauirs here in lampasas and goldthwaite. That is what I use and have never had a flat.

Did they install it for you, or do they sell it in something smaller than a 5 gallon jug? If I recall correctly, it is made by a company in the Fort Worth area, but I have never tried real hard to find it in a consumer sized package. Disregard my last post. Google just helped me out. I found it in gallon jugs. http://www.trclubricants.com/specialtyproducts/tiresealingalloncases/tiresealingalloncases.html Title: Re: Tire Sealant Post by: matt_aggie04 on February 09, 2010, 02:53:53 pm I may have to try this on the ranger, I am waiting on the right front to start loseing pressure any moment now haha. Rex have you ever changed the tires on a set that had this stuff against the wheel for a good while?
Title: Re: Tire Sealant Post by: Circle C on February 09, 2010, 02:58:37 pm Matt,
My Honda Foremans still have the pink slime in them. I changed out tires on both bikes after about 2 years. No problems with the rims that I noticed. Course they are both aluminum wheels, I don't know if it might react with the steel wheels. Seems like I was paying $7.50 per tire for the pink stuff, and the stuff today is $15.00 per tire. If it works like the pink stuff, I will be happy, even though it cost twice as much. I have yet to have a flat but these cheap polaris tires keep bubbling on the inside wall.
Buddy at the polaris store just sells me the pull offs...cheaper than I can buy a new tire and they put the sealant in them. I think they sell the gallon sealant for $20. They buy it ..... because the polaris store puts their label on it. |
