Title: Last 4 hunts Post by: Wmwendler on March 04, 2010, 08:14:56 pm First hunt a few weeks ago was a quick one we were hunting on a bend of the river that almost comes back on its self. there is just one way in about 75 yards wide. The river was up with drift rolling down the middle and that always makes me nervous. I had Paris and Dad had tiny and fuzz. Paris struck 3 sows and some pigs. The other dogs went too her and the bay broke but they ended up bayed on one sow. Killed the sow and called it a day.

Just some old sign. Got some good exercise. Walked about 7 miles Third hunt I went by my self again one evening and Paris and Joe both found a hog about 200 yards appart. I was happy to have two hogs bayed at the same time with just two dogs, but It all went down hill after that. I spooked the hog Paris was baying and it ran toward joe's bay. The dogs then bayed together for just a minute but before I could get there the hog broke bay. 2.5 miles, through a neigborhood, across a county road and into a place I dont have permission, and 6 creeks later he smoked us. lol. Hate when that happens. I cut paris off coming back across the county road and joe came in shortly after with small cut and was sore for a few days. Fourth hunt today. I had Paris and Joe. Dad had Tiny, Dixie, and Monk. They struck some hogs in some wolf weeds and we went to the bay which sounded like sows with pigs. These dang wolf weeds are about chin high thick and you can't see 2 feet in front of you and cant tell hogs from dogs so I hollered suey hog and busted the bay. They ended up catching a big sow about 220 and then rolled out and struck another hog and had a good race but bayed eventually in a briar thickett. Got that hog killed and Paris rolled out to 3/4 mile and showed bayed but got there and it was a shoat. >:( >:D. Forgot to take pictures of the hogs before we cleaned them but got some pictures of a Bald eagle and Nest. U can barely see the hog facing the top left corner and monk caught on the left leg where he always is. There is 3 other dogs caught on the head but U cant see them.

Title: Re: Last 4 hunts Post by: Wmwendler on March 05, 2010, 08:54:15 am If the dogs and hogs cross when the river is 3/4 or more bank like in that picture, They will end up 1/3 of a mile or more down stream by the time they get to the other bank. I always worry that they will get hung up and giant cottonwood floating down the middle or get washed into a cut bank and cant get up it.
