At what age is it best to start working with your bay dogs pups?

You can introduce them to a small pig and an early age (around 3 months) but they usually won't take it too seriously until they start to mature. With that being said, all dogs mature at different ages so I guess you just have to know your dogs.

I have a bmc and hes almost 4 months old. I've had him in the back yard with a small choate before and he will get after it for about 5 min and then just walk away.....but I guess its still just the puppy in him and he'll get better the more he matures

This is a trick question! I have started puppies when they were 3 mons, 4 mons, all the way to my best strike dog I have didn't start till he was 1-1/2 years old. I was ready to just about kill him and he struck and bayed his own hog. IMO,,I really think it is the dog that you are starting and how much he wants it.

whenever you start them make it fun. don't over do it. let them work for  5mins or so then pull them out...always leave them wanting more. i never want my dogs to think of hunting as "work". i want them to think when we go to the woods we bout ready to have a great time!!!!

x2!

Depends on the dog. The breeder of your pup should be able to give you the best insight on your pup. Especially if its line-bred.

Handle.... day one.

Baying in pen... as soon as they can move fast enough to get out of the way.

In the woods... mature enough to not play around all the time.

Just depends on the dog.
I started my pup in the woods at 4 mo.
He has already struck 2 hogs and he just turned  6 mo.
So i guess some start better then others?
