Title: Scouting trip turned into a hunt 7/20 Post by: Cull Buck on July 21, 2008, 01:12:10 pm I was recently given permission to hunt about 4000 acres in brazoria county. I heard it held lots of pigs so we went out there Sunday morning to look around. I brought my 10 month old lacy pup with me for a little exercise and see how he would do without leaning on older dogs for help. We got to a section of the property where a big section of thick wood leads right up to about 600 acres of milo. As we were driving down the fenceline we started notcing lots of sign so we kicked the pup out and he got ahead of the truck. We were about to go another 200 yards and turn around when he took off and struck a little boar in some brush between the fenceline and the milo field. The hog ran straight for the woods and I thought for sure my pup would get his butt burned because it was so dang thick but he stayed with it in there pretty good. He had him stopped at one point in a small clearing but I busted it while trying to take a picture. He finally bayed it up in a stock tank about .75 miles where he struck it and we shot it.
I was a pretty proud pappa. She started to bay her little butt off as soon as she saw that dead pig. Pretty cool! (http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a130/rskinner75/Hog%20Dogging/Peachzbaying.jpg) Here are some pictures.... It makes me happy to see pups turn on so quick, next time you need to catch one and tie it off to a tree and let her bay it then. Keep the pics coming and it sounds like Redgy is going to be the real deal. Keep em in the woods.

I can't tell you how suprised I was to see him scent that boar off the road and chase it all over that property. He looked like a veteran strike dog! We need to get him a little grittier and maybe we can start pullin some one out baby ;D. He looks like he is gonna be able to teach Peachez how to do it. Had a great time, cant wait to get back out there, and keep up the good work with Reggie!

Title: Re: Scouting trip turned into a hunt 7/20 Post by: jerryg on July 25, 2008, 09:59:25 am thought so...Chigger and Dolly? My best dog is out of Chigger and Dolly. Chigger throws out some good dogs with great nose and drive. How is he with other dogs? Dog agressive?
Jerryg Title: Re: Scouting trip turned into a hunt 7/20 Post by: Cull Buck on July 25, 2008, 12:18:21 pm Yep, he is out of Dolly and Chigger. Its funny you mention your best dog is out of that pair. I've heard the same thing from a bunch of guys all over the country.
He is not dog aggressive although he has had some small skirmishes. Around new dogs they may give each other a "cur dog hello" but after that its not an issue. He's never been in a real fight. Is you dog on the large side? Reggie is pushing 65lbs easy. Title: Re: Scouting trip turned into a hunt 7/20 Post by: jerryg on July 25, 2008, 12:57:53 pm I got my dog as a 1.5 yr old problem dog, he was human and dog agressive. The person who had him before didnt give him the correct handle and would let him fight other dogs so he could get his ass wooped and maybe be not so dominant. Didnt work, he beat up all the dogs. I have been working with him alot...during the deer season he has a job (only bloodtrailing) and is doing great, its the summer where he gets a little wound up since he is not working. He is about 65 #, hell of a nose, drive and bottom. We also have a full sister to him and she is on the small side but will be as good as him. She is already striking hogs on her own at 9 months. I got a female from Steve W and Mike B who is turning out to be a great dog, only issue is that she is NKC registered though she comes from TLGDR parents. Good luck with your dog, genetics are already on your side....its up to you now...
