Once we catch a hog and have him flipped we say "Caught hog" and the dogs release (sometimes with encouragement) and get out hunting again while we are tying. As far as the catch dog is concerned he will just stand back and wait on us or another bay (sometimes it takes someone holding onto collar (depending on dog)). If we have young dogs with us someone will walk away with the dogs to teach them.

In several pictures on here I have noticed that several dogs are hanging around and/or chewing on the hog while being tied or pictures are being taken instead of out hunting.

With that being said I am not the most observant person and will never claim to be. So this could be all young dogs doing this or they might have come back to take pictures ater a full day.

So here's the questions: 1. Who on here sends dogs out immediantly after a hog is flipped as explained above and what are others methods are used and benefits of each.
2. How does everyone get there catchdog off a hog (voice command, break stick, etc.)?

I have never thought about ahving the dogs "roll out" after the pig is flipped unitl I got here and heard it mentioned. I keep my dogs close to me so once they get one I respond and then claim the pig and they back up and let me do my thing whether it is gut and clean or cut and release. I tie my young dogs up the first few times until they figure it out and after I release the pig or get it packed up I continue on my waya dn then they go back to working. This is the method I have always used but I guess if there was a group of pigs then it could be beneficial for the dogs to hunt on after I reach the first one.

My older dogs roll out when I flip the hog! Some of the pups I've been hunting lately have been sticking around to long, I'm working on them. The CDs have to be broke and held or tied! I don't want a dog leaving untill I have the hog under control cause most of the time it's just me and dad. Dad just goes to hear a good bay, He's not healthy enough to help much.

We don't allow dogs to hang around and chew on a caught hog. The younger dogs don't always go on hunting but they better go somewhere.. I can't stand to have a dog biting and chewing all over a hog when I'm trying to tie it..

I try to get all the dogs off immediatley after im secure on top of the hog. We have pups that are still learning and we have older ones that will scat and find another. Its the pups time to learn what they are doin. I will verbally command caught hog, if the still grab or go after the hog i scold them lightly if its a pup. The catchdog hammers down sometimes and i need to use a breakstick. Then there are times i can pull them off. As far as pictures go action photos dont bother me because it helps tell a story. Im sure to some they are not important.

you will hardly ever see a dog in my caught pics. my dogs leave as soon as we leg the hog all but the cd of course. because more than likely that hog we just caught was not alone... lots of times we will be tying or cutting a hog and you will hear the dogs get bayed before you can turn the other hog loose.

if i can see the dog they aren't doing me any good i want the dogs gone .

I need a dog to teach my pups to do this! I have a hard time getting my pups to turn loose of a caught hog, let alone get back out and hunt. Scolding lightly or harshly doesn't seem to do much good but maybe if another dog was leaving to bay more hogs they would get the point. Every time I have caught anything it has been with a group and I catch one and the dogs think they're done even though the rest of the pigs are only 200 yd. away. I guess thats just part of poor boying it and hunting only young dogs.

If you have someone hunting with you get them to get the dogs off the hog and dont let the come back. Get you a small stick and the ones that do come back pop them on the nose and tell them caught hog. I don't mean beat them down or anything even close but let them know you don't want them there after the hog is caught..
