OK on April 07, 2010, 01:49:57 pm I never had any luck with breaking scent. what i always have done hounds, curs what ever is hang a deer gland wrapped with e-fence in there pen, a few hits and most leave them alone for good,I always do this with young pups and when there bigger they think deer are bad news of course if you chain them and don't have a pen you can give the dog a little tickle from an e-collar, both work well and don't generally take to many lessons. I would not waste my money on scents ever again.
Good luck what ever you choose Title: Re: deer breakin ? Post by: charles on April 07, 2010, 06:35:00 pm A boot to the hind end works pertty good too, hav a gyp that did the same but she would run the deer. she did it 1 time and got crap beat out of her with a leash and she didnt do anymore.

Title: Re: deer breakin ? Post by: Bump on April 08, 2010, 09:55:03 am I have taken a deer hide. Put a shock collar on the dog. Take a 55 gallon plastic barrel and place the dog, deer hide and roll the dog down a hill...shocking him periodically.
Might let him sit in there a few minutes with the deer on him and shock him a few times. It doesnt take long for them to get out of the barrel when you open it ;D....or to figure out they dont like deer. I then try to take them to a feeder or somewhere you spot the deer. Try to get them started on a deer or smell the deer so they can definitely realize they dont just bite in the barrel but in the woods as well. I have access to plenty of deer...so this isnt hard for me. Also never hurts to sometime shortly after that...let them see or scent a hog and praise them. I have a dog or two I have to remind about deer...periodically. Title: Re: deer breakin ? I'm pretty sure I've got some hide left, and I know i've got some hooves. If you're in central texas pm me and we'll see if I can hook you up.
Title: Re: deer breakin ? Post by: NThoghunter on April 10, 2010, 03:47:43 pm I have had lots of success with going "deer hunting" on property where there are lots of open country. Hope they trash, not say anything to the dog just hit em with an e collar. just last week we worked some pups on deer then had a hog we had caught earlier tied in the woods and let the pups bay him. seems to b very effective if you can burn them on trash, then let them bay a hog immediately afterwards. just my .02
