Title: Friday and Saturday Hill Country Hunts Post by: Bump on May 17, 2010, 04:11:13 pm Friday I met up with Longshot and made a hunt with him in Leakey. We were right on the edge of a big storm and hoping to catch a few before it got nasty. We hunted on the headwaters of the Frio River, saw some awesome country and caught two hogs before the weather hit us and called it a day.
This may not apply to us: (http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg10/rexbump/004-5.jpg) My female jagd, Sis, went her own way and Buster and James's young gyp, Sage, headed up a big draw. Shortly Sis opens bayed on a good red hog. On the way to her we notice the other two dogs are showing bayed on the garmin about 1/2 mile over the hill. One of his buddies who leases the ranch had some friends down that wanted to hunt with dogs. It was most of the guys first dog hunt. We had a good hunt catching 4 hogs. The first two hogs Savoy's dog Sally bayed. We headed to the other end of the pasture. On the way Black Bart winded and bailed from the ranger. He ran few hundred yards and bayed. Sent the catch dogs to him and he rolled out on a hog that went about 2 miles baying and breaking several times before we ended with a hog. Not too many people in this world have seen that! No music on the videos? Yeah...it was amazing the amount of water that was coming from that hole on the side of that hill....and the river began. My filming is not that good so i didnt think it deserved music. ;D Title: Re: Friday and Saturday Hill Country Hunts Post by: FireWater on May 17, 2010, 06:52:49 pm Looks like Z did good.... I have been deer hunting in Leakey for going on 4 years now and every time we get a hog on a game camera, its a big boar with long nasty tusk. I would love to run my dogs out there but it sure looks like tough hunting. We always see dead hogs on the highway in the same general area coming in to Concan also. Must be a lot of hogs in that area. Title: Re: Friday and Saturday Hill Country Hunts Post by: Cull Buck on May 18, 2010, 06:56:13 am Incredible looking country!

this is really one of the prettiest places i have hade the pleasure of hunting you just have to be really careful its easy to get in trouble with all those bluffs but then again most hill country hunts end up on a cliff or in the river great pics but still does not do the place justice Title: Re: Friday and Saturday Hill Country Hunts Post by: slick on May 18, 2010, 07:38:31 pm great pics mate, im really starting to warm to those jagds.
what is the danger sign all about? and what is a gyp? please excuse my ignorance. im slowly learning the different terms you guys use. cheers jarrad Title: Re: Friday and Saturday Hill Country Hunts Post by: Bump on May 18, 2010, 10:54:02 pm great pics mate, im really starting to warm to those jagds. what is the danger sign all about? and what is a gyp? please excuse my ignorance. im slowly learning the different terms you guys use. cheers jarrad Jarrad.... I might be unique in that i only run Jagds but they have no problem getting the job done for me. In this particular part of texas almost all if not all of the ranches are high game proof fences....however the hogs are free range and move through these fences just as a low fence. This particular ranch has a section that is leased for deer hunters only and other parts of the ranch that does not have paying lease hunters. The ranch also has areas for city people or vistors to hike and see the scenery. The section of the ranch where they only allow certain people is fenced from the remaining acreage. The sign is just to desinate the areas certain people are not allowed to access. In all that rambling i could have just said that it is a cross fence that seperates the deer pasture from the rest of the ranch. ;D A gyp is a young female dog. Take care!
