Just want to get some opinions. This may be a dumb idea, but want to know what ya'll think about crossing 2 males with 1 gyp? Have you tried it before and seen it work?

i've seen it done before, but what happens is that you get a litter that has two sires. if you have 6 pups 4 will have one sire the other will have another sire. you don't really know which pups have which sire. it doesn't work like you think. you won't have a pup that is 1/3 dam 1/3sire#1 1/3sire#2...it doesn't work like that...

Yea I knew that. Didn't know this was even possible to here recently. Just want to know if anyone has done it and got good dogs out of it?

i've done it years ago with pit bulls. your chances are the same as any other type of breeding. i think it is a bad idea(told my buddy at the time the same thing) because instead of having one sire and dam that you can trace and say "that was a good cross" or "that was a bad cross" you have to guess which pups were sired by which dog. it is all guess work when you do it this way.

the only advantage you get is that instead of breeding to one sire then waiting to breed to another sire you are essentially getting two breedings in one. that is the ONLY positive. the chances of junk is just as high as doing it any other way. if you are trying to get pups out of two sires from one gyp this is the way to do it quickly. a downside is that you may be trying to get a litter that is 50-50 and get a litter that is 90-10....it has its place..

my idea was to use 2 distiguishably diferent breeds for sires so you would know who was from who

I heard about a lady that had twins, one was white and the other was ummm... brown. True story.
So I guess it works with people too ;D

Two males can breed the same female and you still might get pups from only one of the males. No way of knowing ahead of time what the % will be.

Sounds like something I may want to try in future. Just to give it a shot and see what happens. I think I will try with cur and bulldog males so maybe I can tell which is which.

IVE DONE IT. BIRDDOG/BULL FEMALE BRED TO REDBONE/BULL AND BLACKMOUTH CUR. I CAN TELL THE DIFFERENTS IN THE DOGS NOW. THEY ACT AND LOOK ALOT LIKE THE SIRES. AS PUP ITS HARD TO TELL, BUT 6 MONTHS YOU CAN TELL. I JUST SWAP DAYS ON THE DAM, 4 DAYS STRIGHT AND MADE SURE THE BOTH BREED HER. I THINK IT THE BEST THING I COULD HAVE DONE. ALL THE PARENTS ARE GONE.

Iv'e known some people to do it and you can get DNA kit pretty cheap and send off.  Only need to so it to both sires and pups.  The people I knew that did it was because they had an old gyp they were breeding for the last time and wanted to use two good males.  One lady I know that did and the pups came back half one sire and half the other sire.  A guy I know that did it, all came back as the same sire.  So you never know what will happen but it seems like a good option if you have two great males in area and it is last time to breed a great gyp.

well neither of these were the girl i was talking about...i guess it is more common than we know. the girl i am talking about was on big brother..libra..she was a volleyball player at my college....i don't mind saying her name because she was on big brother under her real name...all this info is readily available...lol
