Title: Accident Post by: hogaholicswife on July 17, 2010, 10:23:09 am Last weekend while out riding the fields attempting to wind a hog my husband started telling about some people one of his buddies knew that took an unexperienced hunter with them, things got a little hairy and they wound up catching a good toothed hog.
The main guy noticed that one of his dogs had been gutted so he left the new guy to hold the hog, he said that as he was checking/putting the last dog up he heard a bunch of scuffling and water....as he turned around he seen the guy in the ditch and the hog going in after him. They finally got him out of the ditch and noticed there was blood every where. The guy had been caught in the cheek and cut accross the face to the back of his head, they rushed him to the hospital where he had to undergo reconstructive surgery. That is going to be a long hard road to haul, I know from experience as my husband was cut last October in the leg about 8 inches long and 2.5 inches deep from mine and his negligence (we knew better). I wanted to wish the guy the best if any of you know him! Title: Re: Accident Post by: sfboarbuster on July 17, 2010, 10:46:45 am The way it happened was they had two BIG and I mean sure enough BIG TOOTHY barrs bayed at the same.
My buddy Larry that I hunt with legged the first one and saw his dog Saint had it's guts cut out, dragging the ground, no saving her. So he did what he had to do while the new guy was kneeling on the hog down in a ditch. Larry went off to catch the other one....The hog got some traction on the side of the ditch, bucked him off and went to shanking him. Meanwhile Larry went and killed the 2nd barr, came back and saw the guy stumbling out of the ditch. He got a few pokes in his neck then a cut that started in the middle of his neck (right where is jugular is), went up cut his ear straight up the middle and all the way to the top of his head. The whole side of his face was hanging off!!! They wrapped his head up in a shirt and rushed him to the hospital in okeechobee which was 45 minutes away. He has about 30,000 in reconstructive surgery so far. I saw the pictures, it was BAD, but he got VERY lucky he didn't get his jugular cut, the big cut started right there, a little bit farther in and he would been bled out by the time they got him to the hospital. But both hogs were over 300 and sporting 3-3 1/2 inches Title: Re: Accident Post by: River Ridge on July 17, 2010, 10:53:37 am I wish him the best. Long road to recovery, but at least he will live to recover.
Title: Re: Accident Post by: hogaholicswife on July 17, 2010, 11:07:05 am John, I figured you may have knew him....that makes my stomach turn just because I know what we went through with the leg, which just missed the artery and the knee cap/bone. Dang I wish him the best of luck!
Title: Re: Accident Post by: leonriverboy on July 17, 2010, 11:21:55 am I sure hope he recovers well. I haven't carried a gun for a while just a big knife but I think after all these stories I've been hearing I'll start back to carring my 45 lc. I quit carring it because the holster leather got wet and shrunk and it want fit my waist anymore lol.
They were cutting corn silage around Gustine the other day and a guy was riding on the silage chopper shooting hogs. He jumped off on to a big boar that was not near dead and it cut him up so bad that it required 100 stitches. You cannot be too careful around them big boars. Title: Re: Accident Post by: ESTEBAN_B on July 17, 2010, 11:31:13 am wish him a fast recovery!!!

There wasn't anything you would be able to do even if you had a gun with you, even a knife would be useless. At least when ever it heals up he will have a hell of a story to tell!! Title: Re: Accident Post by: hoghunterdfw on July 17, 2010, 11:37:54 am wow. that's crazy. hope he has a full recovery. I am all for tying up a hog but NOT if I notice that he has mortally wounded one of my dogs. once he does that his life is forfeit.
