just wondeing why people leave the dew claw on, its not not hard to remove when there newborns.  Does it help the dog for some sort of hunting reason??? The dogs i have had always seem to hang it on somthing..do the dew or not 

Old timers use to say the more due claws a dog has the better breed he was. For me I have dogs with 2 & 4 due claws. The way I see it they where born with them they can deal with them. It is part of being a dog.

My dad says in Cuba all their good Hutia dogs had dew claws, and that those were the ones picked because they always turned out to be better dogs lol

Almost all our dogs that we have from our own breedings have dew claws and weve never thought about removing them.

In my opinion some people just do not care about dew claws. When asked they come up with a reason. Some people worry about them and have them removed. Is it better to remove them? Maybe. Personally I fall in between. If I thought about it I would have them removed when they were puppies. But it is not something I worry about. Then when they get bigger and get one hurt I wish I had it removed. But I have not had many problems. But I have seen some ugly dew claws. If I had puppies from a dog with bad dew claws I would have them removed. So I guess I just do not care either way.

I don't believe wolves or coyotes have dew claws. I believe they evolved toward not having dew claws for a reason.

 I say that mother nature knows best.

 My Uncle believed that dogs with dew claws are better dogs.

I bought 2 kemmer pups and both have dew claws. I don't care for them but I will not pay to have them remove.

I normally remove them from my pups when I dock the tails at 3 to 5 days old.

ALL dogs are born with FRONT dew claws. 

The rear dew claws are a genetic trait of certain breeds of dogs. 

The old timers I grew up around always said that a snake bite wouldn't hurt dogs that had rear dew claws . .   :o

THERE'S A REASON FOR DEW-CLAWS.

Got 5 dogs that have lived through rattlesnake, cotton-mouth and copper head bites on a regular basis and they were all born with no dew claws. And believe me, I let em swell and if they make it they make it.

I use no drugs for snake bite... natural selection only. Hadn't lost a dog in 12 bites and going strong.
