I just bought a male plott havent had a chance to hunt him yet. Hes bout 2yo and said to have been on a few hogs, not to gritty. Never hunted with plotts just wondering if you do what do u think about them and how you hunt yours?

Hunted Plotts and been around them for over 30 years,....just as with all breeds, there are sorry ones, and there are super ones, most fall somewhere in the middle. I haven't seen but a handful of silent Plotts in my life, most are open and can bay up a storm. Give him a chance and he may surprise you, my buddy in TN has 5 Plotts that can and will make life horrible for a hog and they're not old dogs either, they can trail a hog that has crossed through other hogs, cattle and who knows what and when they catch up to it, they will catch it if they can handle it, if not the roar will be deafening.  Some start very young and catch on quick if given the chance. If you're lucky yours will be started and not have much to learn before he's hell on wheels on hogs.....good luck.

I agree with firemedic,but I did have one wierd one, if you scolded that dog for anything you might as well leave him at home for atleast a week.He would just follow you around and just pout and look at you like he was planning his revenge.

Mine didnt start until he was 10 months ole... He was just about to the end of my patience and then he started bayin like he had been doing it forever.. He is now a medium range dog in no sign, or long range when he is in sign... he has been hunted with silent dogs all his life but did end up being semi open on a hot track and after the hog breaks.. But as far as his nose, he has got a better nose than most cur dogs I have ever been around.. Good Luck to you on yours, and I hope he makes you a good dog..

Love them plotts, if they are bred right, raised them for years. Most make good hog dogs if you dont mind the mouth, but i now have the best of both worlds, plotts and BMCs, but defenitly aint color blind. if it hunts the way i like i will feed it. ;)
