Title: Re: How much food? Post by: leonriverboy on August 15, 2010, 02:08:37 pm That's a good question. It all depends on the dog I have a gsp that is the thinest dog I own but I feed him twice as much as the rest of the dogs. You sure don't want them too fat or fat at all for that matter. It's all about how they perform and I think they perform better without any fat on them. I think most people feed too much.
Title: Re: How much food? Post by: dub on August 15, 2010, 02:18:22 pm Depends on age and weight. Percentage of weight based on age older or younger than one year. Then it is the weight of the food. Get a pitcher and fill it on a scale put a mark and dog's name. Forgot percent but it is easy to find. But it is a range so you have to pay attention. I put the top of the range check the next morning and measure for a couple days and put enough so there is none in the morning.
Title: Re: How much food? Post by: Reuben on August 15, 2010, 02:32:00 pm I feed them what they can eat in five minutes or so. Then once I know I don't care about that other than see how they look. I may up it a little or cut it back a little. I feed once a day or twice a day for pups. In the Winter for every ten degree drop I increase the food but am watching their weight. There is a formula but I just keep an eye out for proper wieght od the dogs. If they get the runs or poop too much I know I am over feeding or they have worms.

Title: Re: How much food? Post by: Tusk Hog on August 15, 2010, 03:51:47 pm Read the feedind instructions, then ajust accordingly. If the dog starts gaining too much weight cut back. If they stay thin add to the suggested amount. One thing I have learned each dog's metabolism differs. I'm feeding Victor, my active dogs gets 4 cups daily. The dogs I don't use hard do good on 2 cups.
Title: Re: How much food? Post by: DangerZone on August 15, 2010, 04:04:29 pm I feed the sport mix original puppy formula. I gradually increase the amout till their stool starts getting loose and lighter in color then I back the amout up just a bit. So the stool is dark and firm they seem to maintain weight good and cleanup is easy.
Title: Re: How much food? Post by: charles on August 15, 2010, 04:32:05 pm i feed old yeller but switchn to outlaw now that im in the area to get it, but i feed what the bag recomends and i have a dog that just wont put any weight on and i double feed him, but the rest of my dogs get 4 cups. if any1 saw my skinny dog, they would think i mistreat him and dont feed him, but i guess its his matabalism that keeps him skronny. in the winter time i feed 1.5x the amount i do in the summer just for extra fat on them and to give them extra protien to burn when they rnt out huntin so they dont freeze.
