Title: choking
Post by: Bo Pugh on August 29, 2010, 05:08:26 pm
one of my dogs is making a hacking cough like he is trying to get something out of his throat, he will kinda turn his head sideways like he wants it to move but it wont come out, i stuck my hand down his throat and dont feel anything and i fed his some canned dog food and bread to try to push it on down, does anyone have any other suggestions?

It could be something sharp in the throat, but a lot of times a cronic hacking cough is a sign of worms.

Intestinal Worms lifecycle is :absorb into the dogs feet from the ground and into the bloodstream, they make their way to the lungs via bloodstream, the dog hacks them up into the mouth and swallows them, then they are in the intestinal system.

obviously there are many types of worms, and other ways to contract them, but I thought id throw it out there.

I HAVE A DOG THAT DOES THE SAME THING.  I THOUGHT I MIGHT HAVE DAMAGED HIS WINDPIPE OR SOMETHING WHEN I WAS GETTING SOME PORQUIPINE QUILLS OUT.  HE SEEMS TO DO IT MORE WHEN HE GETS HOT OR I HAVE A LEAD ON HIM AND IT IS PUTTING PRESSURE ON HIS THROAT.  I HAVE BEEN GIVING HIM ANTIBIOTICS FOR A WEEK AND HE SEEMS TO BE DOING BETTER.
