EAST TEXAS HOG DOGGERS FORUM

The KACSPE Cattlemans association annual (28th year running) cow dog trials will be held the 16th and 17th of October. (Saturday and Sunday, 3rd weekend of Oct.)
I believe it will be  held the same place it was last year. Just South of Smithville
Okla. on HWY 259 at James Camps place. James's place is On the right headed north on 259 from Broken Bow, Just south of the small town of Smithville.  ( We stay over at a motel in Broken Bow)

now if you like good, get ahead, and lead 'emin cowdogs and good country folks you just as well show up, enter up or just watch and visit. I have only been to one other cowdog trials other than this one but I am told it is the best and the toughest one going by folks that have gone to several other such events, most of these folks use their dogs as part of their livelihood and know what it takes to handle cattle (and hogs) in big rough places. Historically there will be 15-25 sets of dogs on Saturdays all age contest and almost as many on Sunday for the Derby dogs "24 mths or younger" contest. There is dinner (12:00) meal served on the grounds and the proceeds go to the Assoc. Ya'll come. There is a gate fee but it is worth every penny haha.
The Calcutta usually starts at around 9:00 on Sat. and 12:00 on Sunday (there used to be a church just down the road a little way at the old place they held the trials thus the later start).

A heck of a long drive for me but it sure sounds worth it!

I am supposed to be in Wagoner, OK that weekend working cows with Craig.  Trying to figure out how to make both happen.  Smithville looks to be about 150 miles from Wagoner. Just need to see if the cards line up for it.

Talk to Craig about Clue Anderson....and his stud dog "Cowboy"... if you're making the drive you should make arrangements to take one of them home.

Is their a conatct number or more info on this event to other folks that may be interested so we can share?

Once you work some yellow dogs you'll forget all about them Aussies.

Not likely... they are apples and oranges as far as I am concerned.  Each with their own purpose.

I'm just givin'  you a hard time....I've seen some really nice border collies and kelpies!  I'd like to see some good Australian Shepards, but everything i've seen has been bred for color and big hair....no competition for the previously mentioned.

Unfortunately, most of the good looking aussies had the working ability bred out of them... Ours are somewhere in between. They look nice, and work okay. Jack of all trades, farm dog type.  They won't win Westminster, or the big trials, but they get done what we need doing.  I have a friend with some really nice Bc's and a Bc x cur that is jam up.

Does your friend breed any really nice BCs?  Always on the lookout...

He buys them from on older man in Louisiana. I will get some contact info from him and pass it along.

I'd bet it's Len Dalton...he's pretty much the BC man in these parts!!  High $$$ though!
