Title: Runners
Post by: Dexter on September 14, 2010, 06:27:27 am
I know when we have had our problems with hogs gassing it and getting gone  I just want to know
what everyone else runs into

Hey Dexter,

Good topic but, for me you will have to put another selection up because I have come to associate the runners with particular places and not the time of day.
Places that I hunt with the bad runners, run just the same, day and night.

That may not be the case for other but it is for me.

maybe you should make a greyhoundxdogo superdog it would be a greygo. he could run 50mph and grab an ear and put the brakes on. just a thought ???

You've got it all wrong Allen. Dex's question didn't leave much room for arguing about who's dogs are better so no one wants to chime in ;D.  I agree with your post about location. Some places we go we wear nikes cause we know what we got comin ;).

Where we hunt it has a lot more to do with the time of year than it does with the time of day.

Peechcreek,  I've got a greyhound x dogo and he can fly, but he's not a lock down cd. He cathes the rear and sits them down.

i have alot more problem with em running in this drought. i hunt the pineywood thickets in E texas. they break and smoke my dogs in the thickets and i guess its just harder for em to trail em back down. dogs are gettin hot and slowing down. ive only been running my own dogs for about a year so im still learning but thats my view on it.

My favorite time to hunt is the day after deer season. The weather is cool the weeds are down and the dogs have a fair shot at catching hogs. It doesn't matter too much whether they are runners are not when the vegetation is dead the dogs can catch up to them. :)

This lasts until the first days of April before the weeds get thick again. Another plus during the cold months is that the gators are somewhat dormant. I am talking about S.E. Texas.

you need you some pit cross's I was having hell here with the runners its like the dogs would strike and the hogs would bust through briars and all that thick number 2 and the dogs couldn't keep up with them in that number 2 but I found an austrailian shepard and pit cross no misses since stopping everyone of them in his tracks.

My friend uses 1/2 pit and 1/2 mtn cur and he catches lots of hogs but his dogs don't live as long.
