Title: BMC Dogs
Post by: AW on September 14, 2010, 09:07:36 am
How many of you that raise curs have some with a ridge on the back of there neck? I have a Foundation female that has it and have seen three others with it. One of the other dogs was Foundation bred and two were not but I know they can still be the same blood. I have heard a few different things just wandering what yall may know about it.

AW cur dogs are just what the name implys. Over the years people have added just about anything that may improve are maintain the line of dogs that they have. Any body that has a line of dogs and has had them for any time at all has to add some kind of out cross to try and bring the blood back. For me I would try to stay with a line of dogs that was as close to mine as possible. But years ago that was not as easy as it is today with the WWW and this broad to find people and breeders that have what you are looking for.If your dogs are woking for you and doing what you got them for then I would not worry too much about it.

I am not looking to change or breed just curios as to what some people have seen and heard over the years about it. I had a guy tell me there was an old line of East Texas Cur that produced a lot of these dogs. I realize it has nothing to do with the dog’s performance I was just curios.

Need a little better description AW. Not sure exactly what you mean. Is it the back of Neck  or shoulder or down the back??  Do you Have a Picture ? Was it just a swirl or cowlick on the back at the front shoulders ?

Not trying to be funky here but myY quick answer would be, it's gona be a guess or opinion as to what, when and why unless you the man that did the breeding and have done it for a long time and personally are a witness as to each of the breedings that went into the make up of that dog or line of dogs. But even then, you ony  know what you know and saw, past that it's what you are told or choose to believe.

Sorry AW but thats just the truth.

This is the only one I have at work if you look at the bigger dog you can kind of see it from the top of the head to collar.

Yes it is true about the plotts havin it too, But i have only seen one that had it, an old female i used to have years ago. It was just on her neck, the hair turned plumb backwards. was a crocket bred female, and was kinda bully lookin, but throwed some dang good pups. Wish i still had some of them.

AW,  yep,  thata just how my plott looked,  It aint no tellin what all they had mixed in, those old crocket bred plotts are real bully, i always thought they had a little pit in them, guess they might have had some ridge back too, they say they crossed them with curs years ago, i dont know, some say yes some say no,  guess we will never know. they were known for being very gritty.
