Title: Tushy Boar
Post by: Marshall on September 15, 2010, 01:25:04 pm
I went to hunt by myself early Saturday morning, and I was driving in through a big pasture toward the river when I heard my 1 year old Walker gyp, Lowbawl, open up in the trailer. It was still dark and I decided that would trust her and see if she could work it out in the next 20 minutes or so before the sun comes up. I turn her and my 2 year old red gyp, Tina out and they run around the trailer acting like they can smell where something walked thru the pasture. Lowbawl is only 13 months old and has found and bayed probably 15 hogs on her own this year. She works her way into the young pine plantation and opens twice at 300 yds. She is trash broke, so I know she smells where a hog was. All of a sudden I hear Tina explode into a hard bay, and then Lowbawl starts bawwling hard, and I can tell that they are looking at him. I turn loose my ROUGH BMC/Lacy dog 'Buttermilk' and my 10 month old Airedale X pup, Yorkie, to them and I hear Buttermilk try to catch when he gets there, and then start baying too (very unusual). I can tell it must be a good one. Well, I grab my catchdog, Chico,  of 5 years out of the truck and through the plantaion we go. The sun is just now starting to give some light. I get within 20 yds and turn him loose and hear the battle begin. I head in there and noticed Buttermilk's collar laying on the ground, cut in 1/2. I come out on a pipeline and can see the hogs butt sticking out into the opening. I grab him and flip him and notice that he has my catchdogs collar hooked by his tusk. I had to tie him real fast, and then roll him over to his other side to pull my bulldog off of him. He put up a good fight, but he met his match with that crew. All the dogs are going to be ok and I have a new set tusks to show off. Enjoy.

Sun starting to come up on Saturday.

Caught hog! Look at my 7 month old Kemmer, Hippy, baying his head off from the front off the trailer!

Tina and Lowbawl. Good dogs.

Marshall,

Looks to me like you have some good pups coming on...

Are you still hunting the sire and dam to the pups?

Thank yall for the comments! I had a good time.

Buddybegone- Yes, that is Lowbawl. The only pup that lived when I bred Ol Highbawl. She is 3/4 Walker. 1/8 BMC, and 1/8 Pit. She has been finding hogs since she was about 6 months old. She is a hunting machine.

Reuben- Good to hear from you. I stopped hunting the sire, Bud. He will be 11 years old next month, and has started to show his age a little bit. Thier Dam, MJ, is a hog finding fool. She is probably the most athletic dog that I have ever owned. I couldnt ask for a better gyp. She can run like the wind blows. ha

Triggs - I was given my origional 'airedale' 2 years ago when he was a little puppy. His name is Tramp. He is actually 1/2 blackmouth. Im pretty sure both of his parents are 50/50 airedale and BMC. I think they came from up around Centerville somewhere. Anyway, he is a hog finding machine. He is very smart. He acts kinda 'goofy'; he doesnt like to be petted on. All he wants to do is work. He found a hog when he was about 5 or 6 months old and has been doing it ever since. He will open a little bit if the hog breaks and runs, but not too bad. He will help catch but isnt stupid with it. He has been cut several times though.

I also have 1 of his pups named Yorkie that is out of the red gyp Tina that is the pics at the begining of the post. She (Yorkie) is exactly like him. Abnormally smart, strictly business, and probably the hardest hunting puppy that I have ever owned. She is always up ahead of you and trying to find something. She is all hustle and very athletic. She will be 1 year old on Halloween and has already found a few hogs. She will bay like a champ too. When she gets older I can see her being my best strike dog. Yorkie is the 2nd dog from the right that is staring at the hog tied to the trailer at the begining of the post. Thanks for the question.

Tramp with a boar he found last winter.
