Title: Dew Claws
Post by: snorty98 on December 03, 2010, 09:14:25 am
Just geting started hogdoging have a few dogs but was wondering about the dew claws have some cat pups some have double dew claws and some don't have any at all. Does anyone know what causes that and is good or bad? And do they need to be removed when there are puppies?

dew claws are really not that imortant imean some of my dogs have em and some dont from my understanding dew claws have one perpose for a dog and that is climbing trees might laugh but really some people emove them because there is always a chance they get ripped off oh and it is cheaper to do the whole litter rather than one puppy

At 3 to 5 days old nip the rear dew claws with a nail clipper and do so horizontally, meaning crossways if the pup were standing.

The dog does not need the rear dew claws they can get ripped off or sometimes the nails curves around and back to the foot and the foot can get infected unless you keep the nail trimmed.
