Title: How hard is it??
Post by: dabutcher on December 07, 2010, 06:07:41 pm
For those that do have or have had silent hounds or there crosses, how hard are they to find??  I'm really interested in finding a nice silent blue tick or maybe a plott.  I really like the looks of LionandBoarHunters dogs.  I also like the sound of a nice hound.  I'm getting hard of hearing so I really need a dog with a lot of bark to him.

its not that hard just make sure your getting the right hound or breeding to the right hound if your makin your crosses because there just as many sorry hounds then there are any other breeds

i myself do not breed the hound for nose i like a hot nosed hound that runs with there head up thats more of a jump type dog then a trail dog

i guess i should've put down what i was looking for all together.  i'm hard of hearing (50-55% loss in left ear) so i was wanting to get a dog with a good bawl to him.

Like a lot of mouth and leg.  Not too much bottom or range.  AND NOT COLD NOSED.

I hope it's possible without having to do any breeding.  I figure you'd be the guy to ask.

Hey Jordan, one of the two weimaraner, cat pups I have sounds just like a hound.  You have to ask Eb about her.  She was bayin from the creek bank on the last pig we caught.  He said he didnt know how I missed those two pups bayin when I ran by them.  I get a little tunnel visioned when my dogs are fightin a pig.  I guess what I'm gettin at is you dont really need the hound for the bark.  Also heard on the radio yesterday someone had some redbone, lacy pups.

caught this late.... yeah Justin was saying something about to me today.  Don't know if they're any count, and i'm not really interested in raising pups at this point.  I know you can get some curs and what not with a lot of mouth (i've had a couple) but it ain't the same to me.

Butcher,
Talk to "setexasplott" he has some really good dogs. If you truly want a PLott or a Curr/Plott, you cannot go wrong. He is not a greedy man, he mostly breeds for his own pack. Good luck....

x2 We hunt our curs with his plotts and we like to give each other heck about curs and plotts but he has got some good ones.

This looks to me where you need to be looking.

Also, the Kemmer cur with a lot of ear that is bred tight Gold Nugget might be a good place to look. Especially if they are crossed with Plott.

you run straight plotts or do you run a plott cross too??  I'm thinking of looking for a plott cross.  something like a plott/cur.  i wouldn't mind a straight plott to try out either.  A buddy I started hunting with has a pair of plott x bavarian mtn hound pups that seem to be turning out.

any suggestions on a good line of plotts?
