Title: Re: good bmc curr breeders?? Post by: dub on December 25, 2010, 05:08:44 pm I wasted a lot of good money trying to buy good dogs. You can't buy really good dogs. Forget the names because you can't buy them. Start helping people getting muddy and doing what is asked. You will get offered some good dogs from people you get to know. They should not cost much. People with good dogs bread them for hunting. They do not want them going to a person that hunts a few times and gets bored. Then they just leave the dog in the yard and good dogs want to hunt more than most people so the dog is miserable. The more you hunt the better the dogs you get offered. So stop looking for dogs and go look for hogs. If you think you can go buy good dogs you will learn just like I did that it does not happen. I know what names should come up. I would cull every dog I have just to get two of the really good ones.
Title: Re: good bmc curr breeders?? Post by: hogdog05 on December 25, 2010, 05:58:34 pm I agree with dub 100%. I have been fortunate enough to meet and start hunting with some of the best yella dogmen out there. In the past year i have learned more from them about dogs than i learned in 13 years of huntin. But i have crossed many a swamp for those men and will do it anytime, no questions asked. One thing you must learn is that even the best breeders out there still have culls. So dont go into it thinking that just because you got a pup from so and so that all pups will turn out to be great dogs. There was another post on here earlier this week and in my opinion it had the names of some of the best breeders.
Title: Re: good bmc curr breeders?? Post by: Rockin-P-Ranch on December 25, 2010, 07:06:01 pm What dub an hogdog05 could not be said any plainer. Not every pup in a litter is going to make a jam up dog. And any man or woman that makes that claim is blowing smoke. The dogs that I have were given to me from the men that raised them and they got them the same way that I did. It takes a lot of hard work and hours spent in the woods and on horse back behide those men and dogs to get them. And you can not put a dollar figure on that. There have been some very good names of breeders put on here before. And a couple of them I know personaly. So get after it and show them what you are made of.

Just trying to find some top breeders. any info would be great thanx.. i20hogz, I don't know much about the yellow dogs but I can tell you that the truly great dogs are usually not for sale are cost quite a bit of money. A lot of your good breeders do not do it for the money but do it to breed better dogs and sometimes they will never sell a pup and if they do it is usually given away or charge enough to cover expenses. It would be best to find someone who breeds a line of dogs that consistantly produce high quality dogs for what game you will be hunting. I have found that the best way for me is to find the dogs that I like best and then buy several pups from those lines and train them myself. Then I will breed back to one of the proven males and select from those pups. This way you can pick the best pups because usually the best pups aren't for sale. I would rather spend time and money getting the right pups than trying to buy a started or finished dog. Sometimes we can get lucky and get some good started dogs but it is not that easy to do so in my opinion. We need to be careful and not buy a so called started dog that will never get past that point as far as hunting goes. There is that old saying "A STAR IS BORN NOT MADE", to me this is a true statement, especially when it comes to hunting dogs. Title: Re: good bmc curr breeders?? I got my start by being the wettest muddies person in the woods. If i got to go they didnt have to get dirty or touch a hog any further than tying it. The guys around here dont let go of their dogs to no one but friends.. leopards are a little easier to get but getting a pupy off a good line of yellow dogs is an act of god or FRIENDSHIP and Respect. It took me years to get a good yellow dog on my yard and when she had to be put down it took only a few days for people to hear and start calling offering me pups and even the finished dog i have now. I wouldnt spend a cent on a dog, I like to earn them and the respect of the people who have the GREAT lines. Title: Re: good bmc curr breeders?? Title: Re: good bmc curr breeders?? Post by: aladatrot on December 28, 2010, 03:47:14 pm Watch out for puppy millers. There are some with seemingly good reputations but how can you test every breeding dog on your yard when you breed twenty bitches a year? In my opinion, you are better off getting to know some of the guys who hunt much and breed little than the breeding "gurus". In many cases, if you follow the almighty dollar you can figure out what some folks are in it for.
Sorry, I have a strong opinion on this one >:D Cheers M Title: Re: good bmc curr breeders?? Post by: Randy_P on December 28, 2010, 10:32:11 pm Watch out for puppy millers. It seems with hog dogs you pay more to get ripped off! The more I hunt the cheaper and better the dogs get. There is one person out there that when I meet again one of us is going down. But it is your time and money to do what you want. But you can go find someone in any downtown and give them the money and at least you will have a warm fuzzy feeling instead of a worthless dog to feed.Sorry, I have a strong opinion on this one >:D Cheers M Title: Re: good bmc curr breeders?? Post by: treeingratterrier on January 05, 2011, 11:29:46 am Just buy a pregnant black mouth cur gyp and raise all of the pups and train them yourself with one old dog that is dead broke, not every dog breeder puppy mill out there, find somebody with a older gyp who used to start her own hog and bayed it solo and rolled out good, good lucck.

Post by: Bryant on January 06, 2011, 10:16:49 pm So I am open to suggestions as to where the best or one of the best places to look for a well built, cold nosed long range cur. Thanks That's the trait that will knock a lot of BMC lines out. Very hard to find, especially since I've been told it's not a true quality of a well-bred cur. I've hunted for a lot of years and seen a lot of dogs, and I can count without taking my shoes off the number of people who I know that are personally breeding and CONSISTANTLY producing those type dogs. Most are next to impossible to get stock from, as they work their dogs and typically only raise a litter when they need some. I almost hesitate to call someone like that a "breeder" per say, because in my mind a breeder is one who's producing pups with the intent of supplying a demand. Title: Re: good bmc curr breeders?? Post by: tnhillbilly on January 06, 2011, 11:16:57 pm I always put that in there, cause i think long range means different things to different people. I actually dont want a dog that hunts out a mile. But one that will at least roll out 300 - 500 yrds. The range aint as important to me as nose, and i now that they are not known for that either, but if they have a good enough nose, it will lead them to the hogs.
Just dont want something that wont get out of eyesight |
