Title: squirrel bait!
Post by: dub on January 06, 2011, 10:23:27 am
I have to get a squirrel into a live trap. What have people used that works. I always shot them but I have a dog that freaks out when I shoot even a pellet gun. It is in the attic down in the eve so I have to get something to draw it to the trap. I am guessing peanut butter.

peanut butter on a slice of bread, or if you still have some on the ground, acorns.

If you know where its going in and out, you can make a funnel out of some hardware cloth pointy side out, kinda like a crab trap works, easy to get out hard to get in.
Otherwise they get pretty acrobatic for some brie seed

Bake it a cake and write "Hello Mr. Squirrel, this delicious cake is for you!" in blue icing. It would help to draw a couple acorns on it.

I put some raw peanuts around. I will add some flower seeds. If I don't catch him I will lock my dog up and shoot the stupid squirrel! The last time I tried to shoot a squirrel she jumped clear over the eight foot wooden fence! It is almost funny if it did not stress her out so much. But that dog can jump! I would chain her up but I worry she might hurt herself. I can't believe I am trying to catch a stupid squirrel.

Peanut butter, corn, acorns or just plain ol' bird seed. Works great to catch'em.

There is a good reason I am not a trapper. I don't have the patience for it. The pellet gun is by the back door. I put the "humane" trap up there so if I see him it is over! I hate squirrels! My daughter will be sad. She named him Earl. But I say Earl's gotta die!

My wife was laughing at me. I had my Beeman pellet gun with a scope on it over my shoulder, a camo cap on, and a pink camo flashlight going up in the attic. She was laughing and telling me I needed more camo. I told Earl is going down. She told me I better not tell my daughter or I will be in big trouble. That (*&$%^ squirrel is staying down in the overhang! I told my wife I gave him a chance to get in the trap. She tells me what he has to die because he is not dumb enough to get in the trap? YES, this squirrel has got me mad. He is taunting me every morning just eating the house! >:( I need a thermal imaging scope!!!!! I think I will build a squirrel stand in the attic ;D Squirrel V. Redneck that squirrel has been talking smack to the other squirrels!

Does it have a hole that it is using to go in and out? If so, get a #110 conibear trap and set in the opening. That would solve your problem real fast.

He has ducked. Every time I hear something I go up in the attic. I leave the pellet gun up there and the ladder down! When the weather gets better I will look outside too. I am going to put different seeds in the trap too.

I effing hate squirrel! The little suckers get into my trailer in the winter piss all over the place, leave pecan hulls all over, chew up my clothes! I hate 'em!

I turned off the water to the water troughs and let them get low, they will fall in there and can't get out, then they drown! I got 2 a day for about 2 weeks! Then i'll shoot a few stragglers when i see them! Only bad thing about doing it that way is it gets the fox squirrels too, they are pretty neat, don't get into everything, and can just about feed 'em out of my hand
