Title: Spotted up cat
Post by: Derek on January 17, 2011, 12:10:17 pm
Here's good looking cat I treed last night in Palo Pinto county. Ran about 40 minutes. Had some 6 month old pups on the ground for the first time. They couldn't keep up but made it to the tree so I was happy.

not to be ignorant here, but never run cats with dogs.. Now that hes treed what in the heck do you do with him?  Shoot him out or is it just tree and walk away with him still up there?

Never ran cats with dogs.  I can only imagine what the training is like. Kind of hard to "bay pen" a cat!  Great photos!

ChaseG..we'll get together before too long I hope.

LionandBoarhunter..conditions are good here right now, have you had any rain yet?

As far as training, about the only way to make bobcat dogs is to run bobcats. Nothing else can teach the dogs to work out the kind of "tricks" a cat can pull.

As far as what to do with them when they tree.. I'd prefer to leave them to run again especially if it's a place I get to hunt a lot. Some places want the cats gone so they want them shot. Quite a few won't tree and will get caught on the ground.  Sometimes I'll poke the cat out and run some more if I have some young dogs.

Thats somethin ive aways wanted to do,  Ive treed, bear, coons, possums, house cats, squirrels, but i dont think i ever treed a bobcat, and for sure not a mt. lion.

Good looking cat Derek!

We have had plenty of rain in SE Texas and conditions should be good for a few weeks.

Palo pinto co ain't too far from me, I would like to tag along sometime.  I don't have any cat dogs but you're more than welcome to come chase pigs with my flagtails.
