I am trying to get and general ideal  on the average  what  we spend a year  on just hunting with you dogs

 please regester  or log on to and  give you  totals on the LSWDA Site
 also please keep you numbers as correct as you can
 this is to show  the Austin folks  what  we spend and what sales taxes are collected on us dog hunters

took me long enough but I finally got a good idea to "total expenses" and got it posted, It really will make you think once you put it all to pen and paper

around 2500+ a yr   depending on vets and other expenses

just in dog food for 1yr 5200 not counting gas and tires or break downs

ID SAY 3000 ON BEER ALONE JUST FOR HUNTS HAHA...... MONTY, I DO BELIEVE THO THAT YOU SPEND THAT MUCH ON DOG FOOD..... LOTS OF CRITTERS AROUND THAT YARD HAHA.

I spend about $3000.00 just in dog feed.

I just have an opinion i want to throw out there.  Before hand so you know i am make a living as a Tax Accountant and i have a couple of friends very high in the same profession in Austin.  Being i have been questioned by them before i would alert you in that this type of fight could cause a back lash.  They already often wonder why so many of us in this sport don't show income from dog sales, guide services, hog removal services, etc.  I'm not saying everyone doesn't show but i am sure there is a good amount out there that are part of "tax evasion."  I think if you take that fight to them they could turn it around on us just as easy.  One of them even visits this site on accasion and asked me question and i have to turn my head and say i don't know what your talking about.  I always tell him man you have no idea what we spend and his response is that's not the poing.  Again this is just my opinion so you can take it with a grain of salt.  

What about all of the hunters like me who dont make a dime off of hunting? We spend an excess of 5000 dollars per year and we havent made a penny off of it.

Well that's exactly what i said, but i don't charge anyone to hunt there places, my dogs are already stated on my income becuase of my boxer sales, and i have to show guide services anyways because of the guiding i do for dove hunting.  I know as well as they do not all of us make money as i stated, but there still is a good amount that do.  It was just a thought and I am surely not on there side with this.  i was just giving my .02.

     I would think that almost every person on this site has expenses relating to dog hunting, with ZERO income from dog hunting.  Sure there are a few dog traders that profit, but most every dog on here has much more cost (basis) than they are being sold for. I imagine there are a few that guide and even fewer that are actually paid for hog removal.

   Now I am no tax professional, but my limited knowledge leads me to believe that "uncle" does not want me to start up a "business" of hog dogging, because I can guarantee it will be operating in the red for the allowed number of years. Cost of dogs, vet care, food, training, mileage, gear, etc....  If they want us to report our income, the backlash for them, is that we will also report our expenses...

Just my opinion on the matter.  

I agree with you.  I think its more the dog "breeders" in general that's the problem, but it does all come down to the dogs.  If they put more laws on breeders that still hurts us in the long run.  Again i am not saying its a bad thing i just wanted to bring to light the possiblities of the other side of the spectrum that's all.  It wasn't meant to call anyone out by any means if that's how it was taken.  

Oh no, I didnt take it that way at all, I was just thinking that there are probably more hunters that are like us.....always in the red. LOL  :D I guaruantee that if i pay $100 for something, I probably couldnt get $50 for it the next day. Im just not a good business person.  ;D

Now don't take offense to this, but sometimes the damn bean counters ( and the IRS ) that interfere with what would ordinarily be a common sense business move. In an unrelated issue, I am in the middle of purchasing an existing business that I have been involved in for 14 years.  Such a simple transaction is being complicated by potential tax liabilities. It's quite frustrating...  Not to mention, I just got done filing my 2010 taxes...  >:D   I know the bean counters are not the ones who wrote the law, but they are the messenger, and right now I don't like either one of them ;D

 popo.  yes i am a pencil pusher but not for the state.  i am in the coporate sector within the energy section.  Lets just say that i am not your normal pencil pusher though.  I get a lot of people in the office that love to here my weekend stories.   :o.  we have even had a video timeout to watch some of my video.  it's hilarious to watch my collegues jump at the little things.  I am not liked by many for what i do, but hey i am not liked for reasons on here already.   ;D  i tend to speak my mind when when should filter what it's thinking.  lol.  as far as 2010 tax return i do a lot of my friens returns so i am not looking forwards to my next few months.  lol 

Well, I don't know about dogs, since Grace is my only one. But when it comes to my horses, sheesh... I'm not gonna do the math, but on 3 head, my feed bill runs around 600 a month, suplements run 100 a month, hay runs me 100 a month, water prolly 75 a month, diesel to and from shows run around 200-500 a month, show bill is usually 200 a show, and my cheapest vet bill last year was 350. So yeah, I can see that it adds up real fast.

Well I just calculated Dog food  ands its about 2,730 a year maybe a little more.
Thats not including Gas or Diesel to and from hunts, food, hotel room for weekend hunting trips, dog gear, vet bills, wormer etc.
So we are close to 5,000 a year I would say.

we spend about 3,600 a year with dimond high energy dog food(that is not including if we have puppies and are feeding puppy food). i dont even want to think how much we spend on gear,vaccine, wormer, water, and vet cost. i paid 900 for a cat gyp to have surgery two months ago. so i would think we probibly spend close to 6,000 a year on our dogs food and health. not to minchin the price of fuel. but i love hunting and my dogs. i dont think i would change it one bit. mrs.kbar

That would be fine if they would let me run as business. I would then track and report every penny. Because I know without a doubt I loose money and it would reduce my tax burden.
