Title: Dog Box....Try #2
Post by: Bryant on January 24, 2011, 09:54:11 am
This go around, I spent a little more time on the implementation of a system for fastening the box to the bed of the Ranger.  It wasn't near as much fun building it a second time, but at least I'm finished.

I never heard anything about the one I lost.  Filed information with Sheriff's office, DPS, local newspapers, radio station, etc.  Someone picked it up that knew what it was and had a use for it...and that kind of irritates me.  With all the info I had posted out there, it would not have been hard to find it's rightful owner if someone had tried.

The original one I built is identical to the new one below.  If anyone should see it in the back of a machine anywhere, I would appreciate knowing.

That is crazy, I can only imagine that the mesh material helped it grab the wind the first go around.  It look way to heavy to blow out of anything but I have see that even large expanded metal has a huge amount of wind drag.  Really nice box!

Im with you Bryant. I dont think whoever picked it up "tried" to find the rightful owner.

That is a fine looking box! Were you able to use the Ranger bed-lock system to secure it?

Looks great!  Are you hunting those "one out" dogs now?   ;)

Very nice work. I still hope you find serial #1.

Good question and I'd have to do some math.  I would guess about 125 lbs.  I used light weight materials..took about 85' of 1" tubing, and about 1 & 1/4 sheets of 1/2" expanded metal.

You can't really see it in the picture, but there is a platform on top for bulldogs to stand.  It consisted of a cut rubber stall mat like from TSC.  That combined with the expanded metal drag was enough to flip it out the back I guess.

Were you able to use the Ranger bed-lock system to secure it?

No, I made my own systems out of all-thread, pipe, etc.  I had the locks ordered and was tired of waiting.  Saved some money too!

27" tall.

Looks great.  When I get a ranger I may just follow you around until you decide to deposit this one on the side of the road.  ;)

Could have ended up under a truck. Then a scrap guy picked it up. Or just a scrap guy. That is a big object to have on the road. I lost a much smaller four-wheeler rack it fit under the cars behind me and between the tires. A cop came along after I had it back inside the truck. He started lecturing about securing my load. He said if he would have seen it on the road I would have got a ticket and kept saying I would have to pay for any damage if someone reported it. It was Just the plastic Polaris rack. Man if he had seen you drop that he would have called the SWAT team. rolleyes
