Title: cut vests Post by: doublel on December 10, 2008, 08:19:24 am what do ya prefer?
my catch vest is a tejas i think but the outdoor store shut down that i order from. i am needing some light but heavy duty ones to run on gritty bay dogs. Title: Re: cut vests Post by: clint on December 10, 2008, 08:27:53 am i have tejas vest too... the good hing about them is theat you can take your dog in there and let them measure him and they can make it while you are in there.
Title: Re: cut vests Post by: uglydog on December 10, 2008, 09:19:33 am look at the link to bottom of the page. they have a 3 layer KEVlar that weighs only one pound. can't get any lighter or touher than that.

At Ugly Dog Ranch tons of time, research, and money have gone into developing vests that offer your dog the highest level of cut protection on the market. Our DEVASTATOR and GUARDIAN cut vests do just that. Sure...we offer more economy type vests like many of the other brands, but no matter who makes them there is only so much protection you can get from 3 or 4 layers of cordura or nylon......
DONT be fooled by other brands who are pushing nothing more than a glorified bay vest as an adequate cut vest. YOUR DOG deserves more than that! At Ugly Dog Ranch we strive for unmatched protection and I guarantee that there is no vest on the market today that can come close to the protection level of our DEVASTATOR or GUARDIAN. You may think that is a bold or cocky statement, but I take dog safety very seriously......I'm protecting my dogs as well as yours. Our goal is to have your catch dogs die from old age and not from the tusk of a boar..... Title: Re: cut vests Post by: Black Gold on December 10, 2008, 06:40:40 pm We are selling a lot of the medium Boar Bibs to guys with gritty bay dogs that put some miles under their feet each hunt.....I would really need to know more of how you define "agressive bay dog" to determine whether a bib will give enough protection of if a vest is necessary.....We can make a DEVASTATOR short to where it ends 3-4" behind the leg holes and it would weigh less than a pound and still give all areas covered kevlar protection......
Title: Re: cut vests Post by: doublel on December 10, 2008, 07:02:25 pm depending on how rough the hog is you can get there with a catch dog but the hog will sometimes be caught or the dogs will be cut up from trying to catch
Title: Re: cut vests Post by: smoke42 on December 12, 2008, 08:34:33 am does the guardian restrick the dog from movin his head around. i like the protection it gives but it looks like the dog could not move that well. i have never owened one so idk but i would like to hear how the dog can move im thinking about getting one.
Title: Re: cut vests Post by: Black Gold on December 12, 2008, 09:04:04 am They way the GUARDIAN is put together allows for natural range of motion. We are selling these vests like hot cakes and have had great response from our customers thus-far.
Title: Re: cut vests Post by: hogslayer08 on December 15, 2008, 06:19:49 pm Yeah I trying to figure out which kind of vest to get for my pit
Title: Re: cut vests Post by: L3Outdoors on December 15, 2008, 06:30:13 pm Hogslayer, I would go with the Guardian for a walk in pit. It has much more protection if he ever grabs the nose, and it will help alot with brusing. The Devastator is very thin and will not keep your dog from getting brused if he takes alot of shots. Both are really cut resistant and good vests. JMO This is a video of the Devastator in action. Never had one single cut through on any of my Devastator's. The outside will cut but the Kevlar stays in tack. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VzsvgMcUxiU
Title: Re: cut vests Post by: hogslayer08 on December 15, 2008, 06:41:00 pm my pit was on a hog in the bay pen this weekend his first time to be on a hog in a year but he caught on the nose and that is were i am trying to figure out what vest is better
Title: Re: cut vests Post by: L3Outdoors on December 15, 2008, 06:45:39 pm Those jaw plates in the Guardian will save you alot of cuts on a dog like that. If he cuts the ligaments in his jaw he isn't going to be a very good catch dog after that. You can stop all cuts but it will help.
Title: Re: cut vests Post by: hogslayer08 on December 15, 2008, 06:47:49 pm k thanks and would i need a cut collar with that perticular vest
Title: Re: cut vests Post by: Noah on December 15, 2008, 06:57:08 pm While we're on the subject... I've also wondered about these vests with the cut collar built in... (Devistator)
They have to restrict motion? Are yall also running a cut collar with that vest? I like the looks of the Devastator(the Kevlar, light one I think). That will be my next vest purchase. Title: Re: cut vests Post by: L3Outdoors on December 15, 2008, 07:03:08 pm I run a cut collar under the vest and put the top stap of the vest through the D ring to keep the collar and vest from getting any gaps in them a dog could get cut through. The Guardian does not need a cut collar at all. It is made like a Ozzie breast plate and everything is one solid piece. If your dog has a short neck you dont need a collar on the Devastator. All mine have long necks so I run a cut collar.
Title: Re: cut vests Post by: Noah on December 15, 2008, 07:13:55 pm Good info L3, thanks!
Title: Re: cut vests Post by: hogslayer08 on December 15, 2008, 07:34:00 pm so between the guardian and the devastator which one do you think would pretect my pit the most
Title: Re: cut vests Post by: L3Outdoors on December 15, 2008, 07:51:10 pm Guardian. It just better suits the pits. My pits are the only dogs I have trouble with cuts, because they will let a hog beat on them and not move out of the way.
Title: Re: cut vests Post by: hogslayer08 on December 16, 2008, 11:30:08 am yeah mine to his mom and dad were both good dogs and both of them caught on the ears is there any advise to get him off the nose and to the ears
