Title: Joey Hutsons Yellow Black Mouth Curs from La???
Post by: treeingratterrier on February 05, 2011, 02:11:04 pm
I have been looking at his dogs for ever and always wondered who hunted them and how did they do for you, I used to know where they came from and i think there was some fight over regstering the non yellow dogs or something like that way back, his website says he has kinda slowed down rasing pups, i was wondering if anybody knew if his dogs were good squirrel dogs and had ever been by there.  Thanks in advance.

Owned one off that bloodline years ago with papers. Beautiful dog but was very timid and did not ever turn out for me. I bought the dog second or third handed so I cannot attest to the raising or treatment to the dog after being purchased from the Hutson's stock. Bout all I know of them except they are lookers. Hope it helps

usually 2nd or 3rd hand really just means the dog is a cull.

Yep I do agree with that. And it was. But all in the same I do not want to run a man's line down due to only one experience with a dog that was passed several times since being sold from the origination.

Yes the cull cliche line dont work with me either, when i was selling a lot of young started dogs i had plenty of dogs ruined for what ever reason by buyers who beat them, left them, starved them ran them over, and called the dog a cull, usually love handling, meals, and hauling to the woods with a good pack of his litter mates usually cured the cull cliche, all dogs dont fit all hunters, some hunters have no clue and are always buying trained dogs due to no patience or dog knowledge.  With all of the advances with shocking collars and gps and trreing colars i dont get it why anybody has to have a trained dog, we used to hunt when you had to have a start dog that hunted a large area due to not many hogs becaue screwworms were still bad and maybe a bark in 2 or 3 nights roading dogs.  Now the hogs follow the hog hunters around drinking the dr pepper left in the atv coolers and sandwiches in there lunch boxlol  And they are just getting more and more, ihave them come up here breaking into my selffeeders during the drought while the dogs are inside the kennel, you can always tell when they came up from blood on the 4x4 squares and boogered up terriers faces from trying to bite thru the kennel at them, I used to have a 25 self feeders hanging off the outside so i could fill them without going in the pen, had to move them inside of the dog penslol

Knightstockter,

I also agree with what you are saying about some dog that are culls. Sometimes they are culls because the owner/trainer ruined the dog. A good example would be the hunter cast the dog out in the woods for the first time and the dog encounters a deer so right off the bat the hunter shocks the dog. The next time the dog finds and bays an armadillo and gets the shock treatment again. Now the dog is afraid to go in the woods much less bark at any game. All he wants to do is stay with the 4 wheeler because when he is at the masters side it is safe. The master gives the dog a few months and then gets rid of the dog because it is a cull.

I'm a root cause analysis kind of guy and the problem here is the trainer does not know much about dog training and he ruined a good dog. One of the correct ways to start a dog is to let the dog bay a hog in a pen or turn the dog in to a bayed hog and then make sure the dog loves the woods before the dog gets any harsh correction for trashing. It is better to let the dog get away with trashing if he doesn't know the woods or hogs.

Some breeders actually like money back gaurantee or money back with the dog coming back because they get a dog raised for free and then they train the dog and get top dollar for a started or finished dog. Not always the case but happens often enough.

I agree with that the way I start a young dog is by starting them in the bay pen then I let them come out of the box in tell they know what a bay is and what they are suppose to be hunting then I will
Let them run with a dog that is totally finished because if a dog doesn't know what trash is most of the time he won't trash.Alot of people will let young dogs run with anything and if you let them run with trash that is what they r going to be

leave them running loose around house untill they start baying the wild hogs at the deer feeder in the pasture then it is time to start them.( when you get home in the middle of the night and you can hear a 6 or 7 month old pup down thier baying
