Title: Neuter or Not? Post by: POTTER on March 03, 2011, 01:25:18 pm Hello Fellow Doggers,
Took my dog to the Vet to get his ears cropped and they said my pup has CRYPTORCHIDISM, which I had no idea what that meant until they told me that it is a retained testicle. They said one testicle dropped but the other did not and I should consider neutering due to the fact that it could cause some medical issues down the road. They said that they could remove the testicle that has not descended or both. The question I have for yall is if i neuter the dog will it loose his drive to hunt and aggression. I'm going to use him as a catch dog. Title: Re: Neuter or Not? Post by: Circle C on March 03, 2011, 01:28:08 pm Cut him and you will never regret it. Both of our catch dogs are neutered, and it hasn't affected their drive.

Title: Re: Neuter or Not? Post by: Boar Collector on March 03, 2011, 01:37:57 pm I've never neutered or spayed a dog, but one of my hunting buddies has a gyp he spayed last year and she's twice the dog she used to be. He used to have a pitxbmc dog that was cut too and he was the best dog they've ever owned and one of the best I've ever hunted with. He had more drive than most dogs.

Title: Re: Neuter or Not? Post by: catchrcall on March 04, 2011, 05:02:10 am my vet does it for about 75 bucks I think. Only way to go as far as I'm concerned. If I remember right it's about 10-14 days and then back to hunting.

Title: Re: Neuter or Not? Post by: Beejay on March 05, 2011, 10:37:36 am Redtick, just wondering the Ace dosage. My research tells me .05 to .1 ml per lb, up to 3 mg max. Just wondering what works for you.
Title: Re: Neuter or Not? Post by: redtick23 on March 05, 2011, 11:05:24 am depends on the size of the dog but normally about .5 mls for a dog around 65lbs
Title: Re: Neuter or Not? Post by: leonidas on March 05, 2011, 01:41:13 pm I agree denutting them isn't going to effect the hunt, but what if you want to breed them down the road?
Title: Re: Neuter or Not? Post by: aladatrot on March 05, 2011, 02:05:36 pm I get ours done for about $50 in Houston. That includes the pain meds that I never use.
Cheers M Title: Re: Neuter or Not? Post by: catchrcall on March 05, 2011, 02:20:17 pm If they are sterilized for a medical reason or because of something they do (fighting, stopping to pee on every bush, constant humping) instead of hunting, were they really breeding stock anyway?

My research tells me .05 to .1 ml per lb, up to 3 mg max. Supposed to read .05 to .1 mg per lb, up to 3 mg max. Just don't want anyone overdoing it on account of my mistake. Thanks for the info Redtick. |
