i was just sitting here looking on the dog peddler sites and was wondering, what is the most expensive dog anyone has ever seen get sold or bought or whatever, im just talking about hog dogs, i have heard of strike dogs go up to 3000, thats the highest i have ever heard, but never had the privilege of owning one of them

I know a fella that says he payed $7,000 for his main dog. He still owns it last I heard.

Pretty sure that "fatty" was sold for $5,000.00 and that was some years ago, when a dollar still had some value.

Well, I owned a dog who's littermate sold for $10,000 at 10 months old.  Funny thing is, i trained my dog from pup and beat that dog in 2 competitions leading up to Uncle Earls that year.  Subsequently, my dog sold for the highest price i ever sold a dog.  Now i didn't think that the littermate or any dog for that matter is worth $10,000 at the age of 10 months, so my asking price wasn't anything close to that, but was a fair value for buyer(who happened to be the owner of the littermate) and seller.  He was 11 months old and sold at the last competition that he beat the littermate.

My avg cost is about $3500. I've got a couple that the original buyer paid $5000 but they couldn't keep any longer. When they do what there bred to do it's worth it.

I dont mind spending a bunch of money on a dog,if you add up all the money I spent on culls and burned by dog jockeys I could have easily saved all that money and bought one bad ass dog with a guarantee.

oh yea i wouldnt mind spending the money on a dog ,i wouldnt spend 10,000 but i wouldnt think twice about spending 2500 + - on one if i just happen to run across one and it was what i wanted, i was just listening to some guys that hunt with us the other day talking about buying dogs and was just curious about some of the extreme prices people have heard of, thanks for the replies

An older brother to my Jesse dog sold for $12,000 last year.  I heard he got really messed up by a hog not long after the sale.  Always have to remember that you can lose em everytime you put em on the ground.

I owned a ten month old pup that I raised that I knew at 6 month old he was going to be able to hunt against any dog and he wasn't for sale. I can see that some pups are naturals and their learning curve is way higher than even a good hog dog. I would rather buy a pup with this potential than buy a finished dog because usually these pups go for a lot less money.


I prefer to go the long route and buy a good line of pups and then raise and hunt them but then the main goal is to breed these dogs and select from them and hopefully get the best...I can not see me paying more than 7 or 8 hundred dollars for a dog. The kind of dog I like is usually not for sale or is way out of my price range.
