Title: Ivermectin proof! Post by: tonyamm30 on March 13, 2011, 11:17:45 pm Just thought I would share with yall that using a ivermectin routine for heartworming is very effective. I have had a small Shi Tzu for 10 years and just seen her 1st visit to the vet on Friday. She went into to be seen because she had a bad discharge after giving birth on Monday. They ran all the test including the heartworm test and it was negative!! We have used ivermectin every other month for the past 6 years and it must be working!! We were told to change out between the paste and ivermectin but, we stuck with just the ivermectin and use it every other month. Guess we will be staying with what works...for us!

Title: Re: Ivermectin proof! Post by: rdjustham on March 14, 2011, 01:55:51 am Oral 1cc to every 110 lbs easier way to figure it is .10cc per 10 pounds 50lbs dog is .5ccs Title: Re: Ivermectin proof! Post by: YELLOWBLACKMASK on March 14, 2011, 09:56:37 am Everybody likes to use a different amounts on their dogs usually cause they are affraid to use to much (Which is always a good idea). I personally like a full 1cc dose down the throat for a grown cur dog around 50 lbs and up once each month (Use the regular Ivomec brand not the plus or off brand (junk). I start em on it around 7 months and continue forever. I promise it won't hurt em if they aint got heart problems prior to. Retired multiple old dogs that have had that amount their entire life span. They also won't die of heartworms. Ivomec is the only way to go. Good luck and happy hunting
Title: Re: Ivermectin proof! Post by: Amokabs on March 14, 2011, 03:36:08 pm I think its hard to overdose them. For heartworm prevention, if u look at the dose on the vet meds, it is very low, i know alotta folks use half a cc per 100lbs and LESS. it also will work as an intestinal wormer but it aint as good as pyrantal or the goat wormer, for intestinal worms to take a hit , u need to give it at the higher dose, 1 cc per 100 lbs,

And, yea, ivermectin will control intestinal worms, not tapes. But i still worm mine 2 or 3 times a year just to be safe Title: Re: Ivermectin proof! Post by: Hog Dog Mike on March 14, 2011, 09:46:06 pm I have been using ivermectin for about 30 years and have never had a case of heart worms. My dogs stay outside in kennels year round and I live in an area that has lots of mosquitoes. The reason that I know it works is that I had people living on each side of me that owned dogs that had heart worms. The houses are not on top of each other but dogs were close that I know had heart worms. I give mine the first weekend of each month.
It gets rid of all kinds of woms except tape worms. You have to use doroncit or something like that for the tapes. Ivermectin is real hard on collies for some reason. If I had a little rubbing dog I would consult a vet about dosage. I have used it on rat terriers for a number of years with no problems. Title: Re: Ivermectin proof! Post by: tonyamm30 on March 14, 2011, 09:59:35 pm i have small dogs, 2 Shi tzu & 3 weenie dogs and they get ivermec too. I fill my needle to the 2nd mark and mix it with sugar water to help with the heat. It has been effective so far! and to think that the vets want to charge us 50 bucks a month for each dog....i would be broke!! i can worm all 15 of our dogs for a year for 30 bucks!! lol
Title: Re: Ivermectin proof! Post by: Heaven Sent Kennel on March 14, 2011, 10:16:15 pm does any one use the injectable ivomectrin? My vet told me 1cc under the skin every 30 days. Just wondering if anyone has wormed this way.

Title: Re: Ivermectin proof! Post by: jerryg on March 14, 2011, 11:38:07 pm some breeds dont do good with ivermectin, collies and austrailian shepherds come to mind. I gave my jagdterrier ivomec and it killed him. He was heartworm neg and i gave him the right amount. Shut down his kidneys....it was not good. I now mix it with valbazen and my dogs never have heartworms and do great.

Just wondering if anyone has wormed this way. The regular Ivomec that is being discussed is the injectable. I perfer to shoot it down their throat. Buy Yes you can use it under skin. Just gotta poke em less by doin it orally. Works either way. Title: Re: Ivermectin proof! Post by: Bryant on March 15, 2011, 10:38:28 am Straight Ivomec is pretty harsh on a dogs throat, vocal chords, etc. It's best to cut it with something. I personally use Propelyne Glycol. 1cc Ivomec to 9 cc's PG, then use that mixture.

Post by: matt_aggie04 on March 15, 2011, 12:42:28 pm Somebody on here mentioned it and I started doing it last month. I used to pull .3 -.5 cc in a 3cc syringe and then pull the rest of the syringe full of cool aid or coke. Now I take a couple pieces of bread and break it into pieces and put the ivomec on the bread and feed it to the dogs. They love the bread and I don't have to shove the syringe down their throat. I'll be doing this from now on.

Its some nasty tastin cause if you miss it goin down their throat they will spit and sputter for awhile. LOL |
