What skunk smell. It is my deodorant. I heard tomato juice. I keep my gear in my truck. I am used to the skunk smell now. I will come home and my wife get mad about the smell and I really did not even notice. I am going to sell my new cologne and call it Le Parfum De Hog Dogger. I will be rich and famous ;D

LOL. Bout the best way is to hang em out in the open air and let them vent. You can spray some freebreeze or submerge them in vinegar for a day or so it helps but best thing is to juice them pups with some shock collers when thay try ol pepe lapuuu next time.. Been there a hundred times brother hope you get descented soon.

I used to think that the smell was just disappearing quickly, but now i think that we have lost the ability to smell skunk anymore. LOL

I used scent away shampoo/bodywash on mine the other day and it helped alot. A friend of  mine is a dog sargent at the Eastham prison and he was tell me that he can never break his dogs from running skunks. not even with a  shock collar. Any one else had this prob.

Sorry dont mean to jack your post

Think of it as free cover scent.

I have one dog that's really bad about killing them.  She never makes any noise, and the only way I know she's done it, is she comes back smelly.  I was hunting one night about three weeks ago..the dogs were all off hunting (so I thought) and a couple friends and I were sitting on the Ranger talking.  All of a sudden I'm startled by a dog pushing on my leg...when I looked down she was trying to drop a fresh kill in my floorboard.  I went to kicking at her and finally got her away.  Needless to say, we all had a pretty good laugh.

Our dogs cant pass a skunk up. After they dispatch the skunk, they roll on it and play with it. After James goes in (cause im usually gagging and cant help him) and whips them all off of the skunk they will go find a hog. I don't know how the heck they can smell one after all of the skunk perfume they rolled in but they always do. They must have one heck of a nose is all i can say because all i can smell for the next few days is skunk!

So the answer to your question .... no it doesn't mess their sence of smell up. At least not our dogs. :)

It is funny because it seemed that every time the dogs found a skunk they would go find a hog right after the skunk. My cur dog gyp won't trash on a skunk. But when other dogs start baying she will go see and sometimes gets second hand spray ;D Most of the time when another dog trashes on anything she will be right at my side to let me know she was not involved. But when she does get sprayed she comes right to me and gets it all over me too rolleyes But they keep finding hogs so I don't care.

The best way to get rid of the smell is to put the collar under your buddies back seat, then you can't smell it and you get a good laugh

Ive got a tracking collar that was sprayed almost a year ago and it still has the faint smell of skunk on it, especiall when its warm out. It has only been sprayed 1 time also, dont know how to get the smell out of a cut collar, I figure it would always smell like a skunk since it absorbed it in the material.

I use that orange hand cleaner and rub it in good then wash it and hang it outside in the shade for 2 days. Doesn't totally remove that smell but lowers it quite a bit.

Dawn, peroxide, and baking soda.  Make a paste with it and rum it on.

Put the collar in an Ocean Spray Juice bottle, pour in some muratic acid then throw in a bunch of aluminum foil. Put the cap on and run. May not remove the smell but you get a kick out of it.

1 bottle of peroxide
1 box of baking soda
shampoo/dish soap

Mix in a gallon jug, pour oncollar washing it. Rinse well to prevent irritating dog's skin. This is the formula that we use at the vet's office that I work at when people bring their dogs in that have been sprayed. Sometimes you have to do it twice, but you will smell a SIGNIFICANT improvement after the first time.

Hope this helps.
