Title: RIP Deuce
Post by: Bryant on April 26, 2011, 10:50:25 am
Had a heck of a bad hunt last night.  Dogs rolled out and struck and the hog left out.  Long story short, found Deuce dead on a ranch road about an hour and a half later.  Only thing I can think of is heat stroke, but I've never had one just fall out like that.  With the way my luck goes, I should have known better than to post a picture and talk about him last week.  He was sure making a good one, and will be missed.

Other than that, I managed to roll my ranger on the way to the bay...got all cut to heck by the thickest, nastiest vine and brush that I've ever been in, and flashlight batteries died.  Then I had a bulldog start to fall out, but I believe he will be okay.  All that to find Cash bayed on about a 25 pound shoat.  Sometimes I wonder how I have managed to convinced myself that I enjoy this!

RIP Deuce

I did have to chuckle at this part. That's the dog I always heard about being so rough. I remember a day, I think it was during a hunting contest last year that he went on a shoat baying spree.

Gus...second time in less than a week he's done it.  It's a shame, I sure like him.  Handles super easy, catches super hard but can't breathe worth a dang.  He's gets winded just walking to a bay before he's cut loose.  A catchdog that can't breathe is pretty much worthless.  He's going to a pet home tomorrow, and then it's going to be time for Elvadeen to step up before long.

Yea, I've had crappy luck raising bulldogs.  I've raised six bulldog pups over the past two years, and not one has met my standards.  My biggest problem, is that Zeus set the bar high.  Got another female (Hines X Stover) that's growing now.  I'm afraid she may not have the leg that I really desire, but maybe her heart will make up for it.  She's not deaf, not shy, doesn't prolapse and seems to have PLENTY of drive and so  she's already ahead of my normal game!!

I still have Monkey, and will continue to use her.   She catches a bit wild but I really like her...wish she were healthy enough for breeding and didn't have the genetic issues I feel she does.  I don't think you could ask for much better conformation in a working AB than her.  You know the deal...always looking for the full package.

I'll try to get a couple pics of Elvadeen this week.
