Please be praying for my Mom, she fell out of her wheelchair at the nursing home on Monday and broke her hip. She's in the hospital right now but should go back to the NH today. Talked it over with the orthopedic surgeon yesterday after looking at the X-ray and I agree with him that given her age, she's 95, and the position of the fracture, the best thing we can do for her is to let it heal as much as it will on it's own. Don't think she's strong enough for anything invasive like surgery to repair it. She's resting fairly well now and maybe she can get some more time, however I'm a realist if anything and I know what the outcome of this will probably be. Thanks y'all in advance for your prayers....dang good bunch of folks here seems to me.

Update 2.....My mom is back at the nursing home and doing as well as can be expected I reckon. She's much more aware of her surroundings now but still confused as to where she really is at any given time. She knows everyone that comes to visit and is handling being moved for therapy and baths pretty well it seems. The pain meds seem to be keeping her somewhat comfortable at the present...hope that keeps up. Her oxygen sat. is steadily improving day to day. She's now 96-97 % on a nasal at 3 Lt/mn. which is great, I think she'll come off of the oxygen all together soon. She's pretty tough and I hope she makes as much of a recovery as you can at her age...95. I cannot convey to all of you how much your prayers have meant to my family. We (hog hunters) are an extremely diverse group for sure, but we can pull togther when need be like no other bunch I know of....I thank each and every one of you from the bottom of my heart for all your support and prayers.....it is much appreciated.

Sorry about your Mom, Firemedic. It's awful what happens to us as we get old, and i don't wish old age on anyone, but guess it' may be better than the alternative,,, then again, maybe not. Praying for you and your family. If anything i can do , let me know, and if for any reason you might consider another opinion down in B'ham, please holla, i may be able to get her xrays seen . I know I've seen several people your mom's age in the O.R. Having hip nails, they usually perform with epidural and iv sedation, so no intubation. But that's a tough recovery for a seasoned citizen to go through. If you have any questions or anything i can help with , dont hesitate. 205-514-0110

Well my Mom is back at the nursing home...went back Wed. afternoon. She seems to be doing about as good as can be expected. She's still not aware of what has happened and where she really is. We decided not to do surgery since I doubt that she could make it through the procedure and then the long recovery and rehab. She is taking something for pain as it's needed and it seems to be working very well, only drawback to this is the increased confusion for a person that already has moderate dementia. I don't have any blinders on as to the likely outcome of this all.
I wish to thank each and every one of you that have kept us in your thoughts and prayers, I'm a Christian man and know that God answers prayers, just maybe not the way we wish He would. My Mom was 95 in Dec. and has lived a long and prosperous life and I hope that she knows that it's OK to go if it's time. I truly wish that I could call and thank every one of you personally, but of course that's not possible, SO....know that you have done a good thing and that it helped out tremendously. Please continue to keep us in your prayers....and know that I do appreciate each one of you on this forum.....no hunter could find a better and more thoughtful group to hang with that you folks....my hat is off to you all.....thank you from the bottom of my heart. ............Neal

Know that God knows what is needed before you ask but wants you to ask.
Remember to ask for God's will to be done because God's will is always good even if we don't understand.
