Title: Cow bay video from today Post by: Silverton Boar Dogs on May 01, 2011, 07:56:03 pm The wife and I cleaned out a pasture today and I shot a little video to test out my new camera. Three dogs on the ground Chilli, Spook, And Mouse. They winded the cattle and barked them up in a nice tight bunch for us, got them settled, and then off to the pens we went.

Mouse looks bored, I think she wants one of them cows to run off ;D You are correct TColt, she thinks she is only there to hang on the ear of a runner ;D I really just brought her because of all the hogs we have been seeing. I needed a catch dog on the ground just in case we bayed up a good pig. Slim, there is no sound and I have no idea why not, but I have not read the directions to the camera, go figure. Redtick, thanks that is the number one thing on my list for selecting breeding dogs. A bold confident dog with good style doesn't need to chew one up to get the job done. Great example of control. Title: Re: Cow bay video from today Post by: jdt on May 01, 2011, 09:45:02 pm " a bold , confident dog dont have to chew one up to get the job done "
are you saying that a dog that knows where to be , when to get there and how much pressure he should apply should be the kind of dog everyone should start with AND breed for ??? ;D ;D ;D ( AND A BIG ) ;) Title: Re: Cow bay video from today Post by: Silverton Boar Dogs on May 01, 2011, 10:04:26 pm " a bold , confident dog dont have to chew one up to get the job done " are you saying that a dog that knows where to be , when to get there and how much pressure he should apply should be the kind of dog everyone should start with AND breed for ??? ;D ;D ;D ( AND A BIG ) ;) That is what I breed for, I am not saying that style is the best for everyone, but that is the key for me to a really good cow dog, that and a dog that has a lot of natural circle and will NEVER bite a cow that is in the herd. You can see when that Hereford cows starts to walk and gets 3/4 out of the bunch and two dogs face up and ask her to turn around and then tell her. The moment she gives ground the dogs instantly drop her and get to the other side. That is perfect work in my eye. Some folks think that a dog that bites or hangs all the time is a tough dog, to me that type of dog is weak because he has no other tooks to use other than his teeth because of his poor bay style. |
