Title: Re: bad dog fight! Post by: BIG CHRIS on May 09, 2011, 11:41:39 am man thats some real bad luck!!! be sure to keep fly off him!!! try to get some antis to kill any 2nd infections that could set up. as for his ear being tore up if it hanging probably wont heal back togeather
Title: Re: bad dog fight! Post by: BULLMASTER on May 09, 2011, 12:44:36 pm I would shoot him with penicillin or Amoxicillin and try to staple the ear back together and keep flushing the wounds.
Title: Re: bad dog fight! Post by: zachW on May 09, 2011, 12:48:48 pm Dex will help with the swelling
Title: Re: bad dog fight! Post by: country man 563 on May 09, 2011, 01:37:19 pm like zach said id give him sum dex or LA200
Title: Re: bad dog fight! Post by: nogalus boy on May 09, 2011, 02:38:41 pm Some cut and heal or wonder dust from the feed store. Those two products have always seem to help keep a bad cut or puncture wound clean and not get infected.
Title: Re: bad dog fight! Post by: uglydog on May 09, 2011, 03:40:17 pm Hydro Therapy, and if the swelling is full of heat and pain, go with warm water and epsom salt soaking, will help the guy get to moving around. Make sure do the hydro therapy everyday twice a day if possible. Dog Bites will be sore. If he got any tendons or ligaments torn he will need alot of help and not really just filling the holes full of junk. Keep up the antibiotics, and keep fly repellent on him.

Title: Re: bad dog fight! Post by: Reuben on May 09, 2011, 07:30:37 pm cut heal 3 times a day
Title: Re: bad dog fight! Post by: dub on May 09, 2011, 08:56:56 pm I ain't no vet so I would run by a country vet and get him looked over. They know all the tendons and stuff. There could be something little that if over looked turns bad. I lost a bird do thinking it was minor but the tendon swole up and ruptured. He could only use three legs running. Just make sure you have a vet that won't insist on doing all the treating unless you have the money. That is why I like the country vets.
Title: Re: bad dog fight! Post by: arrowbar on May 09, 2011, 09:03:11 pm dont use peroxide or alcohol once the cut is starting to heal it will retard the healing process, if the wound if fresh its good to flush it but after that put it away.
Title: Re: bad dog fight! Post by: firemedic on May 09, 2011, 09:14:09 pm Bites are super bad to get infected so be mindful of that and watch him closely.
Title: Re: bad dog fight! Post by: tmatt on May 09, 2011, 11:58:23 pm Try not to use dex unless you absolutely have to. Cortico steroids such as dex do extremely well with the swelling but they also.slow down the healing process. Swelling will look bad, but it is generally not as bad as it looks. I also would not use pen on him either since a lot of bacterias are resistant to pen. I would use cephalexin if at all possible. As for.the ears, if the edges are still bleeding or fresh (not dried out) I would get a tube of superglue (dermabond would be the best if possible) and glue them back together. This is easily done with good pitbull dogs but I am not sure how your dog's pain tolerance is. Just place a napkin under one side put the glue on the ear and hold the edge together then fold the napkin over the other side. The napkin will pull off once the glue dries and will leave a line on the ear, the napkin is just to absorb the the excess glue. I have had some pretty bad dogs that I had to.take care of and this has always worked for me.

Good luck Greg W

Post by: Greg W on May 10, 2011, 06:06:07 pm Unlike cut&heal vetericyn will kill MRSA staff & you can use it in there eyes as well It is all natural. It has no alcohol in it so it doesn't burn them. Ruben send me a pm with ur number & I will send u a pic of her cut I treated with it.
