Title: MONSTER HOG on the Hunt! Post by: TColt on June 24, 2011, 10:32:35 am Lindsay and me headed out to Kaufman Wednesday mornin to get her horse to the farrier, this was the begining of my best two days of summer so far. Talking to the farrier, he tells me about a nice quarter horse that a lady is giving away because she had an accident and cant ride him anymore. Talk to the lady and I cant go pick him up until the morning, and thank goodness for that! I text Brian and tell him Im staying the night in Kaufman and he shoots me back a quick text that says "Wanna go huntin :) ?". Well I always have my dogs with me and of course I cant turn that down., so me and lindsay go ride until Brian gets off work.
We drive the Ranger over to Brian's place and he tells us we are going to the "Hunt Ranch" in Terrell, which I love hunting but we dont get to hunt it that much, after a big boar that has been seen out there the past few days. We Load up the dog box in the Ranger and get all the dogs geared up and situated. Brian loads some more gear in the Rhino and we hit the back roads towards the Hunt Ranch. We meet Dalton at a side gate off hwy 80 and he jumps in. Head down towards the creek and decide to hit the main patch of woods on the place while we still had some day light. I open the gates on the dog box about 100 yards from the wood line and the dogs bolt. All the dogs are running up and down the goat wire fence line at the edge of the woods. Brian walks down and tosses Lacy and Superman over. By the time he gets the third bay dog over Superman and Lacy open up. Brian gets Stew over the fence and I cut Soco off the dog box and the bay breaks. He runs up to the fence and jumps right into the top barbed wire of the fence haha. He quickly finds a hole and he is on the chase. Stew and Soco catch up to the broke bay in a hurry and put the stop on the hog two hundred and fifty yards away. Lindsay, Brian, Dalton, and me all head in. I creep in first and can clearly see its a monster. I try to leg him but can only get one leg off the ground. Brian comes in and grabs the other back leg and I reach up for the front leg and we get him flipped. Lindsay and Dalton start pullin dogs off and I help Brian get the back legs hobbled and start check the dogs for cuts. Stew had a decent bite that went all the way in and out through his front shoulder but other than that everyone was fine. Brian finishes hobbling him and Lindsay Brian and I head back to the rigs while Dalton stayed with the pig. We get back to the rigs, tie up dogs, and doctor up Stew. We all jump on the Rhino and head to the gate leading into the woods towards Dalton and the hog. Brian uses his Rhino as a bulldozer as I walk ahead looking for the best path. We finally get there and get to work on loading him. It took me, Dalton and Brian about ten min and I dont know how many tries to get him in the back of the Rhino but we finally get him loaded. Dalton and me ride in the back with the hog cuz he is a fighter and barely fits in the Rhino. He almost breaks the tailgate and knocks the passengers seat up while Lindsay was sitting in it but finally gets tired. Once we get him to the trailer back at the ranch house he has dang near in shock but alot of ice and water for about thirty min and he comes out of it. We snap some more pictures and Brian, Lindsay, and I head home. I had to go pick up that horse the next mornin and Brian had to be in at work at five a.m. so he didnt get to the buyer till around noon the following day and had already lost alot of weight, I would bet between 30-50 lbs. But ended up weighing in at 320 lbs !!! It was a great two days with some good friends with a big hog and a new papered 4 yo qh :) ! Post by: BIG CHRIS on June 24, 2011, 11:21:13 am he was a no joke hog for sure! i met up with brian in emory and took him out to coles were he was weighed at, i guessed him at 325 and he went 320! u could tell he had dropped some weight from stress and standing in the trailer, if he had of been weighed fresh i would have guessed him around 340. nice boar and good looken dogs!

Same type of hunt it should be though. Another guy called me this morning at 10:15 and said he watch a big group of big hogs lay up at that time. Should be another quick hunt. too bad stew is going to have to lay up on this one.
