I got a little pig today and drug in a field and tied it to a tree... I got my 6 month old bay dog and started to walk her to the trail... She had her nose to the ground and was definately smelling it but she wouldnt leave me she would just walk right beside me and would move till i did.. So i finally just walked her up to the pig amd she bayed it hard... Then i walked her back to the pens than i tookher back to the trailto see if she would run it this time with out me and she didnt.. She just walked right beside me again, but bayed when we got there... I need some tips and know why she does this...!

Try taking an older dog that will run a track and see if she will follow. If not double snap them together about a ft apart and let the older dog lead her to the pig.
Most of the time this happens for lack of confidence in a young dog.
Your pup is not independent enough yet to leave you.
Some dogs are just naturally born to roll and others take time with alot of repetition.JMO

It is good to socialize a pup at home. But it is a form of training. If you call the pup to you and it hangs around then the pup will like to be around you and sometimes we are the cause. I believe that if the dog does have a strong desire to hunt then this won't matter much but a pup that is borderline might want to hang out.
I socialize my pups and call them to me so they can learn the command but the majority of the time I like them to roam and explore. This is pre-conditioning them to hopefully hunt and to not worry about the pup wanting to just hang out with me.

I would drag the pig and stake it out and leave the pup at home or have it in another truck.

Make sure it has been a while since the pup ate and make sure it is not tired. I make sure the pup is fresh and wanting to do something... If in the hot summer train early in the morning or late in the evening.

Use everything you can think of that will help the pup trail and bay.
Drop the pup in the area where he can pick up the scent and give the command to get ahead. Ignore the pup and go find a place to sit for a while. Usually the pup will get bored and will go out and find something to do. This might just make him go find the pig and bay.

If he does not go to the pig go get another dog that will go and bay and the pup should go with the dog or to the bay.

I took her to another pig today and she went with the older dog and bayed before him.. So i guess shes doin better... She even got a little gritty.! Thanks for the advice..!
