Title: bees Post by: Peachcreek on July 13, 2011, 10:47:36 pm I was doing my normal walk/ hunt with mutts today and a fellow hunter showed up about the time i was walking off and he walked with me. Well we get back to one corner of my property and he said i hear bees, me being hard of hearing i could not. We looked around and found a hive about 15-20 feet off the ground and right beside my trail. the hive is about as big around as a bowling ball and had a swarm flying around it. I wonder how many times i have just walked right by it?? Anyway do you guys have any idea how to get rid of them safely? I have been thinking of a 12 gauge from inside the closed cab tractor at NIGHT. but figure they may just be pissed and rebuild ??? what yall think?

If you do it at night remember they fly to the light so do not have a light on you or your tractor. Guess how fast I can jump off a tractor with flood lights at night.
Title: Re: bees Post by: DaytonDogger on July 13, 2011, 11:26:40 pm I agree with dub...the soap and water works
Title: Re: bees Post by: Swine-Stalker on July 13, 2011, 11:37:00 pm Had one at the house under ground. Filled two 20oz bottles with gas and turned them up with the open end in the holes they use. No fire needed no bees. I raked leaves ontop of the hive and lit them and they didnt die... the bottled gas did the trick. Do it at night when they are less active

Title: Re: bees Post by: Caughtandhobbled on July 14, 2011, 04:16:55 pm Call Rudy's Honey in Livingston, he may be interested in removing them for you or at least he will know someone in your area that will take care of them for you. Good luck...
Title: Re: bees Post by: NechesBobcat on July 14, 2011, 05:07:02 pm Is it bees or hornets? If it's bees I would leave them alone, They usually don't stay too long. If it's hornets you can get a good accurate .22 and get back and shoot the limb that its hanging on until it falls to the ground. Most of the time they will abandon the nest after it fall but to make sure just come back at night with some hornet spray and spray into the opening. They look great on the wall of a man cave! I got this one a few months ago. Never got stung and i shot it down and picked it up at the same time and it was a hot day.

Title: Re: bees Post by: NechesBobcat on July 15, 2011, 12:20:33 pm I've seen them in a tree a few times. My neighbors have a honey business and there are billions of bees around. If they're bothering you, you should call someone in the honey business. They would probly appreciate it.
Title: Re: bees Post by: Logan-99 on July 15, 2011, 07:30:45 pm whatever you do dont drop your garmin when the nest falls its hell getting it back. and in the same day dont go to a different hive and accidently tie your dogs to the tree below it!
Title: Re: bees Post by: Lone Star 88 on July 16, 2011, 04:34:15 pm Paul and i bayed up under a bee hive, they stung me 10 times in the head and 4 times on my back. Ran off and left the catch dog clipped to a tree. Had to run back down the levee and get him. He was yelping every time they stung him. Lost a good size boar, only had three legs tied. The dogs run him down the creek and got in to more bees from a 55 gallon drum. They ran us off, had to be the african bees they are really aggressive. Sidney
