Seems like somebody in Texas would start putting those lil 2 horse bumper pull trailers bodies on a bed one of these days since there are so many hog hunters nowdays.  We used to send 1970's w300 Dodge Crewcabs to Fort Worth for this in the early 70's, but these were for mule riding quail hunters around here before the fireants and hogs ruined all of the quail hunting down here.  You cant sit down anymore or leave a hog or coon on the gorund long before its crawling with them.  That truck be handy with its short wheelbase around here on these tight senderos, wonder if a large mule would make it lopsided??  I would add a front and rear winch to the truck and make a side gate as well to load up atvs and dogs.  Wonder how heavy that tail gate is to lift??lol  I have seen some of these before and wonder if they have to lift up the dog to get them in the side boxes or if they are set up to run the dog up in the back of bed and go thru the dog cage from the inside??  I cant pick up more than 5 pounds right now.  I would also add a divider so the mule would stay on one side only and u could load and unload all of the dogs in the bed together, but am i a idiot for stuff like this!!!lol  Looks nice for sure, you cant get anybody to make these anymore they think you are on crack when u ask about making onelol

I thought about some of your previous posts when I found this.  The tailgate is spring loaded but I dont know how the horses/mules don't rip it off.  I just cant see the truck being very stable going around corners and such over about 30-40 mph.  It obviously works for some people or they wouldnt be making them.  I really like the concept where you don't have to pull a trailer all the time.

I saw one of these (or one very similar) in Utah this past year.  We were coming off the mountain from treeing a bear, and the State trapper had that setup.  He had a few cur dogs with him.  The guys I was with stopped to talk with him for about 40 minutes.  I checked that rig out real good.  It was cool.  You just don't see them around here.

Matt Im like Cutter saw one when I was in Utha. They nomaly back up to a hill to load and unload there horses. They are a little top heavy, but the fuel milege is better than pulling a goose neck or bumper pull in the moutains that they have. Also easyer to turn around onsome of the goat trails that I saw where up there.

Forgot to say thanks for posting that link, I added it to my collection of mule hunting rigs, I agree with you, needs to be a 1 ton dually, I have hauled 1 mule in a bed of a 1/2 ton pickup truck with the dogs and tossed him over the side and broke a great handmade bridle and bits, too much weight transfer almost flipped my truck, dang thing heard a locomotive engine blowing its horn and went crazy, had to chase it down and put a belt on it and reload, omg so many people wee honking and laughing i wondered if he was going to bray buck and pitch all the way to Houston, this was on old US 59 before the trains quit running across the highway.  That rig work better if they loaded the mule sideways where he could not turn around and all of the weight would be even instead of on one side, plus the dogs could be mass loaded in the back of the bed to be easier to unload and reload until a track was struck and the mule needed.lol

http://www.biggamehoundsmen.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=11684  This thread i think is the same guy that sold that mule box or one just like it and built another one with a lot of updates, this one in the thread also loads from the side, somewhere on that site is a picture of the white rig mule box that shows the compartment were you can stow those $2000 saddles and lock them up or even put dogs in the top that overhangs the cab, pretty cool for sure, that old blue w300 crewcab in my link shows what we used to send to Fort Worth trailer place and they slapped horse trailers cut down some on the old dodge powerwagons 1 tons with long wheel bases and overloads and 12 plys all around.  I been trying to find this horse rack and buy it for a pattern, it was dumped off by a collector/trader who did not know what it was, some more were made to go into Mexico with airpane tires and front and rear pto driven winches for getting into ruff country and water crossings,   best freind owned a dodge dealership at one time down here alas all gone now, that guy Max Harsha built one i had copied where it folded down into a dog box but it was sold when i got out way back, it went on a toyo4x4 and was gal round pipe that folded down.  What is bad down here with those mule boxes if you are hunting a brush ranch they always hang up on low trees and powerlines around junky ranch camphouses and barns at night when u cant see them, I hung one of mine on a wetback shack and jerked the meterloop off of itlol  Bad thing was not a mule or dog in it, talk about scared of getting the lectric chair..
