Has anyone else noticed trees going dormant?  I am not talking about dying, we have a ton of those as well, but I have a lot of trees that are turning fall colors and dropping their leaves.  I have lost a lot of trees and even one in the creek behind the house that broke and fell over from a large wind gust we had about a month ago, I would have guessed it to be around 70-90 years old judging it by its size.  The other water oaks are dropping their unformed acorns like crazy and it seems that the plants are tired of fighting it and just going dormant early.  Anyone else seeing the same thing?  If the trees that are going dormant dont come back in the fall it is going to be a prarie around here come spring.

Ive started seeing that too.... seems like its the smaller/younger trees that were starting to turn first...  :-\

Yep they are doing the same around me also kinda weird to me I have not ever seen this

Yeah most of those trees that have died turn brown real fast.  The pin oaks and red oaks have taken worst than any around here and I hate to see that because the wildlife depend on those acorns like no other.  In creek bottoms where those trees have always had a little more water they took it the hardest.  There are hundreds of dead red oaks around me and those big suckers are hard hard to replace.  The pin oaks or water oaks grow quickly but red oaks not so much.  There are a lot of live oaks around me too and some that I know are 100+ years old have so few leaves you can see completel through the canopy real easily.  I hate this mess, it really is kinda like living in Seattle or something, everytime you look outside or at the ten day forcast its depressing.  More of the same and more after that.  Deer and evrything look horrible around here, I started putting out corn and protein just so they would have some groceries.  If the hogs are still alive I don't have a clue what they are eating.

I hadn't noticed it as bad here on the coast Matt. I have seen alot of brown pine needles on my windshield when im in the woodlands. You need a break from the heat bro ;) grab those feists and a fishing pole and come hang out in Liverpool for the weekend, you can take all the catfish you want if you leave those feists O0

I may have to do something. Fiests are sold, suppose to head to Mississippi next week. I'm thinking a trip Colorado again, 48-78 is sounding REAL nice!

I have several live oaks that are hurtin pretty bad.  They are easily over 100 years old.  Kinda scary.  I would hate to lose them.

me an my dad were just talking bout this earlyer , my peach trees are dropin leaves so i was wondering if i wasnt watering them enough but i guess they just said its to hot !! haha , any body know how i keep them from dieing ?

My wife AKA Weather Girl. Has been saying something about the trees changing early for the last three weeks. She was saying last nite when the weather changes it's was gonna be quick like summer hot one day and fall the next and the winter gonna be cold again here in North Texas.

Same thing was happening here about a month ago but we have been getting a little rain here lately and it's starting to help..  2 of the smaller live oaks and a red maple I planted here at the house dried up and died in about 5 days...

I've got quite a few walnut trees and they seem in better shape than any tree in the woods and sycamores too. Elms are are looking like hell. I am going to have some brush clearing done on my place and if it ever rains I plan to plant quite a few pear trees and some different variety of oaks. Burr oak and swamp oak hopefully and some white oak as well.  All depending on rain of course.

Yea Matt, i'm just south of Lufkin and looks like just about all my red oaks are turning...None of the other oaks are turning yet just the red oaks....

I went out this evening and took a bowstand down due to that, big pin oak dropping already. Its a damn good tree and i depend on it having leaves when season hits. But not this year. Many others are doing the same.

Funny that i am reading this on here, me and the guys at work were just talking about this very same thing thing today. I am afraid of what the lack of food is going to do to the wildlife this fall and winter.

Yeah, but corn feeders and food plots will be a great success if you can get plots to grow or afford the corn. Same way watering holes have held hogs all summer, feeders near water will be just the spot to start!

weve lost most of out fruit bearing trees on the farm, only the pears have survived we lost the apples, cherry, fig, and peach trees due to the heat

We've lost pines/pecans even with water drips, and cypress along the tank even with continous water pumping in tank to maintain, and the oaks never got a good start in spring and worseing more now at the ranch, In town oaks struggling all yr. just like in the country, thought might be oak wilt since outbreak last yr. but seems to be just stress from heat/drought.
