Title: Where is Highbawl??? Post by: Marshall on August 10, 2011, 04:46:23 pm I have been missing my old walker dog Highbawl. I just saw a picture of him and Train baying in Bremond on a dog gear website from FL. The last I heard he was around Missouri somehwere. If anyone has heard where he may be I would appreciate the info. Thank you.

Title: Re: Where is Highbawl??? Post by: Marshall on August 11, 2011, 09:35:46 am Yeah, i sold him to Mathew and he told me he sold him to some guy around Missouri. That dog hated hogs more than any dog that i've ever seen. I was thinking about buying some semen off of him. Thanks again for any info that you may have.

Post by: justincorbell on August 12, 2011, 11:36:13 am when did you buy him marshall? A couple yrs ago i believe that I almost bought that dog and train from a man with the handle "gj hesseltine" or something along those lines, I had gotten into contact with him but at the time I was working out of state and it didnt work out, if my memory serves me right highbawl was a walker and train was a bluetick correct?

Title: Re: Where is Highbawl??? Post by: TShelly on August 12, 2011, 12:54:02 pm Train was also a walker and yes both dogs were bought from Glenn Hesseltine.. Hi bawl was a hog crazy, hog hunting, barking sob!! Yes he was OPEN.. But it didn't matter, he carry the hog as far as he needed and roll off when you got there. The first time Marshall took Hi-bawl hunting we were hunting about a 300 acre high fence in deer season, unknown to us there was a hole underneath the fence.. Just like that he started a hog, which headed straight for the hole and rolled on.. Hi bawl followed him and 4 hours later ran that red boar hog back into the high fence where we caught him.
We bred him to my gyp and only one pup lived, but at 2 she's finished and Marshll's number 1 dog! Title: Re: Where is Highbawl??? Post by: Reuben on August 12, 2011, 03:02:05 pm some of the best dogs I have hunted behind had the right walker blood in them. High Ball looks to be a nice walker dog.
Title: Re: Where is Highbawl??? Post by: Marshall on August 12, 2011, 03:19:36 pm Sorry for the delay. He was a good dog. I am glad that I got to own him. He made all of the dogs I hunt with step their game up. He HATED hogs with a passion. I sold him because at the time I was not able to hunt him as much as he wanted to be hunted. I would love to breed him back to a good cur gyp. I bred him to my best gyp the day I sold him but of course she didn't take. The one pup that I do have out of him is great. Very athletic, pretty quiet on track, dedicated, and smart. I hope she is able to grow old. He may be dead for all I know but if not I would like to try to draw some semen off of him. Thanks for all the comments.

Title: Re: Where is Highbawl??? Post by: kenny b on August 19, 2011, 06:15:28 pm im new to this site, was looking at it at work last night, and saw this topic. i bought highbawl from a guy in hamberg arkansas i live in star city arkansas about an hour north from there. i bought him in december of 2009 i think it might have been later than that. he died in jan of this year, i got to say he was the best dog ive ever hunted with. i bred him with my strike dog(catahoula) had 10 puppies i kept 3 of them. they are 10 months old now and falling right into his footsteps. it wasnt a question if he would find a hog it was when and where....he stayed with a running hog for 7 hours one day. this dog was unreal was a great loss to my pack. i will attach some pictures, i knew it was him in your pictures seeing the notch in his ear....i would like to talk to the previous owner. my email is kennyb696@gmail.com send me an email so i can contact you.
Title: Re: Where is Highbawl??? Post by: burton on August 19, 2011, 07:04:06 pm What is up with the ear? I also bought a dog from glen and she has the same mark. My dog and highball sound like they were/are they same type of dog.
Title: Re: Where is Highbawl??? Post by: Marshall on August 19, 2011, 08:06:46 pm Kenny b thank you very much for the info. I will email you shortly.
Burton I was told that a hog bit that chunk out of his ear and I believe it because you could feel the scar tissue around it and it wasn't a clean cut like a mark would be. What kind of dog did you get from Glenn? He has some good dogs. Title: Re: Where is Highbawl??? Title: Re: Where is Highbawl??? Post by: Reuben on August 21, 2011, 06:30:10 am maybe he was worth too much? ;) could of been too much dog for the average hunter... Title: Re: Where is Highbawl??? Post by: burton on August 21, 2011, 06:41:31 am Marshall I bought a plott from glen and it was money well spent. I was a little worried about driving ten hours to try a dog but she is everything he said she was.
Title: Re: Where is Highbawl??? Post by: gnjhesseltine on August 21, 2011, 11:28:20 am Glad to hear that my dogs worked for some of you guys. Burton you bought Daisy from me if I remember correctly and I knew Marshall got Hi-Bawl from me. For some reason, my dogs are a little rough and those long ears get torn up when they get to close to a hog. The day Hi-Bawl had his ear torn was also the day the vet had to insert a tube into his hind quarter down to his back leg as the hog had cut him all the way down. I still have photos of that hog. It's always good to hear stories about some of the dogs I have sold. Thanks Marshalll and Burton and everyone else who posted on this subject and on Hi-Bawl. Thanks Glenn
Title: Re: Where is Highbawl??? Post by: kenny b on August 21, 2011, 02:23:46 pm glenn you hit a grand slam with this dog, he was hard to keep up with the old tracking collars but the garmin gps you could stay with him. i would let him and only him out until he struck a hog (was just a matter of time) if the hog was a runner i would follow him on gps and get in front of them, then kick a couple cur dogs out and it was game over just about every time. most the time you could tell which way he was by that deep bawl (was unbelievable) i like closed mouth dogs usually but he sure sounded good. once i figured out how to hunt him with my curs my hog catching improved 100%. marshall i can promise you he was well taken care of my daughter grew very attached to him, she called him pete (not for sure why) so thats what we called him. i think he was alot of dog for the avg. hunter , i spent alot of hours with him in the woods when all my other dogs have gave up. he will be missed by me and my family, i hope the pups that i got out of him are half as good.
Title: Re: Where is Highbawl??? Post by: Jason Dunn on August 21, 2011, 03:52:37 pm Kenny I didnt realive that this was my pups daddy I am glad to hear the history on him my pup hates a hog bad . She has struck one on her own and been on 3 more catching when the other dogs do when I let her out she goes straight to my pen if I got a hog in it and bays she will stay there all day taking a break to swim in the pond then right back at it. I got a few pics with you sent me looked like that little girl did love him.
Title: Re: Where is Highbawl??? Post by: Marshall on August 21, 2011, 07:38:04 pm maybe he was worth too much? ;) could of been too much dog for the average hunter... Reuben you hit the nail on the head. The average hunter would not be able to keep up with a dog like him. He was ready to roll out EVERY morning. No matter how hard you hunted him the day before. Thank y'all for the comments. Title: Re: Where is Highbawl??? Post by: Reuben on August 21, 2011, 07:59:58 pm maybe he was worth too much? ;) could of been too much dog for the average hunter...
