Title: RIP Bee Post by: DixieDogs24 on August 16, 2011, 09:20:08 pm Well its been awhile now I feel like I can write this post. Haven't been hoggin much lately to the heat but I been training a coonhound for my pappy. Had a great hunt going Treed two Coon with the pup and my old dog jack( walker medley hardwood swamp bred.) . He's getting old and was pretty winded so I put him in the box. Decided it was still early and that riverbottom seemed to be full of Coon I just had a good feeling the pup would tree if she got on a hot track. I dumped her down the bank and kicked back on a log. Bout twenty minutes she struck in and man she sounded good ball mouth track dog. Took her thirty minutes of grubbing and she finally located and slammed a tree. I walked to her and Mr. Ringtail was there looking down I was really proud she was Treeing every breath. I decided since it was her first Coon she Treed solo I was going to knock it out. I walked outta that bottom while she filled the whole countryside up with with a ringing chop. I jumped in the truck and drove a mile to my dads farm went in and got the 22 when I came out on the porch I could still hear her Treeing every breath. I got back to the barns in the bottom and parked the truck when I got out she wasn't treeing . I walked in to that tree only to find her Hung eyes starting to glaze over. I don't cry much but I cried the whole time I cut her down and carried her. I feel she would have been a great dog and I feel part responsible I usually make sure my dogs can slip the collar. I sat on my dads porch all night thinking about it. He came out and talked with me. His words made a lot of since and are comforting but some things in life are hard to swallow. Anyhow just wanted to get it off my chest. RIP Martins Hardwood Bee.

Title: Re: RIP Bee Post by: DixieDogs24 on August 16, 2011, 09:51:17 pm Thanks can't be reversed but I wish I had the night to do over again. I guess I've been lucky I've only lost one hunting dog that wasn't to natural cause.
Title: Re: RIP Bee Post by: BA-IV on August 16, 2011, 09:52:17 pm I hate to hear that about the dog. Just the other day, we went hunting and lost a red gyp on a hog. Last time the Garmin showed her, she was treed at over 2 miles, then the collar quit. Never found her, but gotta call two days later and someone had picked her up. Well I met up and no tracking collar, but I was fortunate just to have her home. Well on the way home, stopped at my dads house and I walked in and walked out and she had jumped out and broke her neck. Shed been riding in the truck like that for years and then all of a sudden she decided to do that. I cried for three hours over that gyp. Had more bottom and want to then most dogs and it was a dog you could rely on to produce pork. She looked at alot of hogs in her day and will be sorely missed. I buried her that afternoon, it was the least I could do for her after all she did for me. RIP Bee and Dixie. Two good dogs lost to horrible accidents.
Title: Re: RIP Bee Post by: DixieDogs24 on August 16, 2011, 10:06:28 pm Sorry to hear about your dog BA-IV. I can say I know how it feels the whole time I wrote that post I had a knot in my throat. I spent a lot of hours behind that dog waiting for the light switch to come on it finally did and I guess she wanted it bad enough she climbed to get it. I never had her climb before. I don't know it broke her neck or strangled her. I know she was gone when I finally got her down I even tried CPR but to no avail. I'll never dump another dog again b4 I check to make sure they can slip both collars.
